When Trust Was Harder Than Doubt
I didn’t lose my faith.
I struggled to find it.
For a long time, I leaned on my own understanding so hard that faith felt unnecessary. Control made more sense than trust. Logic felt safer than surrender.
Proverbs 3:5 didn’t offend me.
It exposed me.
Not because I rejected God,
but because I didn’t know how to trust beyond what I could prove.
Faith didn’t arrive fully formed.
It came slowly.
With questions.
With resistance.
With growth that didn’t look spiritual at all.
If you’ve wrestled with belief, doubt, or certainty, you’re not behind.
You’re becoming.

Trust can sometimes feel more challenging than doubt, especially when we rely heavily on our own understanding and logic. This struggle is very personal for many, as expressed in the reflective phrase, "I leaned on my own understanding for a time. It's really personal for me." Like many, the journey from doubt to faith is not instant—it involves wrestling with questions and uncertainties. Proverbs 3:5 advises, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding," which can expose our need to relinquish control and embrace trust beyond what we can prove. This process is often accompanied by inner healing and spiritual growth that may not initially seem spiritual, but is critical for deeper faith development. If you find yourself doubting or questioning, remember that you're not behind in your spiritual path—you are becoming. Embracing this journey with "holy grit," patience, and openness allows growth that transforms doubt into trust, fear into faith. Many find that trusting God requires embracing vulnerability and releasing the need for immediate answers, making space for true spiritual transformation. Engaging in communities around #FaithJourney, #TrustGod, #SpiritualGrowth, #InnerHealing, and #HolyGrit can offer support and encouragement as you explore your faith. Listening to stories and conversations on platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Substack, and YouTube can deepen your understanding and provide fresh insights into this personal journey. Remember, faith rarely arrives fully formed; it emerges slowly and uniquely for each person. It's okay to have resistance and questions—the path to trust is a dynamic, evolving process that ultimately leads to a richer and more authentic spiritual life.
