The Enemy’s Favorite Lie: “Not Yet”
The enemy wants us to believe that the time to start is some other time.
Tomorrow. January 1st. Next week. Any moment but the one we are in right now, especially when it is something God wants us to do.
It’s not that we don’t want to do what God is asking of us. It’s that the enemy pours resistance on us the moment obedience is required. He doesn’t always say no. Instead, he goes into a frenzy and starts throwing distractions our way, hoping delay will accomplish what defiance could not.
Right now, I’m tired. I want to watch TV and zone out. But the Spirit of God beckons me—to be still and listen for the words only God can give me.
While God wants to talk to me, the enemy seeks to prevent the conversation. On my own, I’m not that strong. I’m an easy target. But when I’m in the presence of the Lord, I am stronger.
It’s no wonder the enemy works so hard to keep us away from God.
Satan wants separation. He wants us to do the opposite of what our souls desire. Because when we fully align with God, change happens, and that kind of change threatens the enemy.
When we follow the Lord and obey what He places on our hearts, we don’t just change ourselves, but we show others that change is possible too. And that is what the enemy is really trying to prevent.
If we follow the Lord, we can lead others to Him. We can show them the way.
That’s why the enemy puts up roadblocks. He wants us to become a stumbling block instead of a light.
To be a light that leads others to the Lord, we must follow Him. We must pray continuously for guidance and strength. When we use our gifts, we give something precious to someone else.
It matters.
We matter.
When we continuously delay using our gifts, we delay our blessing, and we may also be delaying someone else’s breakthrough.
What if someone is praying for the answer that your obedience will produce?
That’s a heavy thought, I know. But God doesn’t give us gifts or callings without purpose. Everything He does is intentional. Choosing to ignore the calling of our soul is what creates so much of our inner turmoil.
God calls.
We ignore.
We pray.
God instructs.
We ignore again.
This cycle can go on for years. God doesn’t change His mind. We can’t pray for a different answer just because we don’t like the one He gave us—I know this from experience.
God’s silence is not rejection. Often, it is Him patiently waiting on our obedience.
We can waste so much time and energy resisting what God has already made clear. Honestly, I wish I had done what He asked me to do the first time. There is a painful place where God stops revisiting the instruction. Not because He doesn’t care, but because He has already spoken.
But oh, what a beautiful moment it is when we push through the resistance and choose to sit with Him anyway. When we refuse to let anything or anyone come between us and our Lord.
Is there anything greater than being in the presence of God?
Numbers 23:19 KJV
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
God does not lie.
He does not change His mind.
If He has spoken, He will do it.
We can count on Him.
