Don’t hit your dog anymore!
When I first got my puppy, I struggled to understand his behavior. He would bite my hand during play and bark excitedly, which I initially found frustrating. I even thought about hitting him to stop this, but I soon realized that this was harmful and counterproductive. Dogs can't talk, so their actions are how they communicate feelings like excitement, playfulness, or anxiety. For example, when a puppy bites your hand gently, it's not an attack but a way to play and explore. Instead of hitting, I learned to stop playing momentarily to teach boundaries without fear. Similarly, behaviors like bouncing with butt up, growling during tug-of-war, or whining indicate that the dog wants to engage or needs reassurance—not that they are being rude or destructive. I also discovered that giving treats or redirecting their attention helps reinforce positive behavior. Understanding these signs improves the bond and safety between owner and pet. Avoiding punishment fosters trust, making dogs feel safe and loved. Through patience and gentle guidance, your dog learns proper behavior, ensuring a happy, healthy relationship. This approach not only enhances pet safety but makes daily dog care and training more rewarding. Remember, dogs show love in many ways that may be misunderstood; learning canine behavior deeply can prevent anxiety and behavioral issues. Sharing this personal journey reminded me how kindness and knowledge go hand in hand in pet parenting.
