On March 18, it is reported that David Duong, the head of research at Coinbase Institutional, stated that the market almost universally anticipates the Federal Reserve to maintain interest rates at this week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting. However, investors should be vigilant about any potential alterations to the Federal Reserve's balance sheet reduction plan, also known as quantitative tightening (QT).
In a Monday report, Duong wrote, "We believe the Federal Reserve might suspend or conclude its quantitative tightening program. This is because bank reserve levels are nearing 10-11% of US GDP, a level generally regarded as sufficient to uphold financial stability."
He further pointed out that the recent sell-off in the cryptocurrency market was mainly attributed to macroeconomic concerns and deteriorating liquidity conditions. Nevertheless, Duong expects these factors to improve in the next quarter, which could offer support to asset prices. He concluded, "Cryptocurrency prices are likely to bottom out in the coming weeks and then rebound to new highs later this year."
