Former FED Governor Sharply Criticized the FED
At the IMF and World Bank annual meeting on Friday, Kevin Warsh, a former Fed governor and front-runner to replace current Fed Chair Jerome Powell, sharply criticized some practices of the Federal Reserve.
Warsh said that the Fed talks too much, gets overly involved in current social issues, and fails to hold lawmakers accountable for their excessive spending. Warsh advocated that the Fed should return to its traditional role: maintaining a low-key style as it did for most of the past hundred years or so, without over-explaining its monetary policy and financial stability measures to the public.
Warsh's views seem to align with those of Trump, who believes Powell has too much media exposure. Warsh said on Friday, "Fed leaders would be better off avoiding frequent sharing of their latest thoughts." He added that Fed officials should not release their economic forecasts as it would "tie their hands" by what they have said.
