⛳ Course Conditions
• Tee Boxes
In great shape — very well-maintained, exactly what you’d expect from a premium, splurge-level course.
• Fairways
Also in great shape. Lush, healthy, and manicured — no surprises here for a high-end Strantz design.
• Greens
Surprisingly in need of slight improvement. Rolled noticeably slower than you’d expect for an expensive course. Still playable, but not at the standard set by the rest of the track.
⸻
📐 Course Layout & Feel
This is a pure Mike Strantz experience — unique, artistic, dramatic, and unlike almost anything you’ll play.
Expect:
• Major undulation
• Big elevation changes
• Uphill and downhill holes that force you to think
• Wild bounces and slopes around greens that can either help or hurt
It’s the type of course where every shot requires intention — and the layout alone justifies why it’s priced as a premium “destination” round.
⸻
🌟 My Favorite Holes
• Hole 3 – A beautiful early hole that immediately sets the tone for the creativity of the design.
• Hole 10 – Scenic, memorable, and begins one of the most beautiful stretches on the course.
• Hole 12 – My favorite hole on the entire course. A stunning approach shot over a large body of water, overlooking the cave/tunnel that carries you from 10 → 11. The view here is incredible.
⸻
🕒 Pace of Play
Shockingly fast.
Barely anyone on the course when I played, which made the entire round fly by. Might’ve been the time of year — but either way, it was a fantastic experience pace-wise.
⸻
⚡ The Biggest Challenge
The extreme downhill shots on several holes.
This course forces you to choose your clubs very carefully — the downhill elevation drops can easily cost or gain you 20–30 yards if you’re not thinking. Mastering club selection is key here.

🏁 Final Verdict
I absolutely love this course. I’ve played it multiple times now, and every round feels different because of the creativity in the design. The views are stunning, the layout is unlike anything else, and it constantly makes you think about your club selection and shot shapes.
It’s a premium price — but you 100% get a one-of-a-kind golf experience in return.
Located in Asheboro, North Carolina, Tot Hill Farm Golf Club stands out as a unique destination for golf enthusiasts seeking more than just a standard round of golf. Designed by the renowned Mike Strantz, the course reflects his signature style characterized by artistic, dramatic, and imaginative layouts that challenge players in every aspect of their game. One of the most notable features at Tot Hill Farm is the significant elevation changes throughout the course. Players need to carefully consider club selection, especially on extreme downhill shots where the elevation can add or subtract 20 to 30 yards from the expected distance. This requires strategy and precision, making every shot an intentional one and elevating the mental game alongside physical skill. The course conditions are generally excellent with well-maintained tee boxes and lush, manicured fairways, reinforcing the premium feel expected from a destination of this caliber. While the greens are playable, they currently roll slower than anticipated for such a high-end facility, suggesting potential for future improvements to fully match the rest of the track’s quality. Golfers can expect a varied layout filled with constant undulation, slopes, and wild bounces, particularly around the greens, which can become either a help or a hindrance depending on the player's touch and approach. Iconic holes such as the 3rd, which introduces the creativity of the design, and the stunning 12th hole featuring a dramatic approach shot over water and views of a cave/tunnel, highlight the uniqueness of Tot Hill Farm. Despite the premium pricing—with public rates ranging approximately between $145 and $200—the experience is well worth it for players who appreciate a highly creative and visually stunning course that delivers a memorable and exciting round. Moreover, the pace of play tends to be surprisingly fast, often with few players on course, adding to a relaxed and enjoyable golfing day. This course caters especially to golfers who value distinctive architecture, artistic design, and dramatic terrain over conventional layouts. Fans of Mike Strantz’s work and anyone looking for a destination golf experience in North Carolina will find Tot Hill Farm a rewarding and compelling choice. Ultimately, Tot Hill Farm is more than just a golf course; it is an immersive experience that combines aesthetic beauty with strategic golfing challenges, making every visit feel unique and inspiring.
