Style Routine for Hair Wash Day! ✨
So I got my haircut a few months ago into this like trendy layered 90s vibe and I really really love it. Most days I actually said it with like a full head of rollers and I will do a style routine post for that eventually but today I just really wanted to focus on what I do when I decide I want to wear it straight.
It’s a little different than when my hair was really long. I used to be able to just flip my head upside down and power drive the whole thing run through it with a flat iron and that would be that. This look does take a little bit more effort and how to style, but it does not take longer than styling my long hair dead. I would say I can get my hair dry and styled in about half the time as I did when it was below my shoulders.

Step 1- Prep the Hair 🧴
I usually brush my hair out with a wet brush first just to help get rid of any snarls or tangles. Then I go in with some products. I always use a heat protectant before blow drying or using any type of iron. Lately, I’ve really been loving the CHI Vibes line and their Know it All spray! So I give my hair a good spray of that and then I go in with the Living Proof texturizing foam. Using this foam helps ensure that the layers don’t just all fall flat together and that I just still have some texturized separation of the ends.
Step Two - The Bangs 💗
I feel like the bangs are just like the most important part of this haircut. If they aren’t styled right the whole thing is gonna look bad so I actually spend more time on just the bangs than I do on the rest of my hair! So I usually just section them off and then I take a round brush and blow dry them forward and down while rotating the round brush forward. This gives you lift at the route and also develops that swoopy look that you want when they are when they are done.
After they are dry, then I get a roller to set them. The trick I have found to getting these type of bangs to lay nicely is to actually roll them backwards in the opposite direction of how you blow dry them. This still sets the swoop that you want to be in the bang but prevents them from actually curling.
Step Three - Power Dry 🤍
So this step is actually really easy for me because of the type of hair I have. I just divide the bottom and top half into two separate sections and then power dry both of them. If you happen to have really curly hair or hair that’s a lot thicker than mine then you might want to use a paddle brush or some sort of smoothing brush during this process but I am able to just power dry it quick with the blow dryer and then use the brush when I flat iron it.
Step Four - Polish it!
Now I just go in with a flat iron and I probably do about 2 inch sections maybe 1 1/2 inches just to get each strand nice and sleek and smooth. I don’t necessarily bend that flat iron upwards or downwards I just kind of like let it go completely straight so that the hair falls pin straight and the layers just sit around each other. If I wanted a more flippy look at that and then you could bend the flat iron inwards or outwards but for that I actually usually just use a large barrel curling iron. Then I carefully remove the roller and if the bank needs any additional smoothing I might just very quickly run over it with the flat iron but I don’t like to do that because I don’t want to damage the sweep that I created through the blow drying and roller.
