☕🍵 Trying every coffee & matcha spot in Nashville… starting now!
Ever since moving back to Nashville, I’ve made it my mission to find the best coffee shops and the best matcha the city has to offer. 💚
If you know me, you know this is kind of funny because for YEARS I thought matcha was absolutely disgusting. 😂 Now I’m fully in my matcha era, and I’ve been surprised by how much I’ve started to love it.
One thing about me I take my ratings seriously. I’m not handing out 9s and 10s just because a drink looks pretty. If something gets a high score, it’s because I’d happily order it again.
One surprise? Caliber Coffee. They’re usually one of my favorite coffee shops, so I was genuinely disappointed by this drink. I’m hoping it was just an off day because they’ve made some of my favorite drinks in the past.

... Read moreAs someone who has recently developed a passion for matcha after years of skepticism, I’ve found the transformation in my taste quite rewarding. Matcha, with its rich green tea flavor and vibrant color, can sometimes be a hit or miss depending on how it’s prepared. For instance, the perfect balance of sweetness and earthiness makes drinks like Surefire Coffee’s Shaken Matcha Lemonade stand out as a refreshing and innovative choice for summer. From my experience, pairing matcha with unique flavors like ube, as in Surefire's Ube Dream Matcha, creates a delightful creamy texture and adds a layer of sweetness that complements rather than overwhelms the natural matcha bitterness.
Visiting various matcha and coffee shops around Nashville has also made me appreciate the artistry behind each cup. While some spots, like the Viet Tea Cafe, offer luxuriously sweet treats like the Cookie Butter Matcha Latte—a drink that truly tastes like a dessert—others may miss the mark in flavor harmony or sweetness level, such as what I felt at MUNI MUNI Tea Shop or Caliber Coffee. What’s interesting is that even coffee favorites can sometimes deliver an unexpectedly disappointing drink, which shows how important consistent quality is for keeping customers coming back.
I’ve come to realize that supporting local and Black-owned businesses adds another layer of satisfaction to my coffee and matcha adventures. These visits are about more than just the drinks—they’re a way to engage with community culture and discover hidden gems.
For anyone exploring Nashville’s coffee and matcha scene, I recommend trying a variety of drinks to see what fits your palate best. Pay attention not just to flavor but also to how balanced the drink is—too sweet, and it can overpower; too bitter, and it becomes unpleasant. And if you find a shop with a drink you love, don’t hesitate to become a loyal customer. Lastly, I encourage everyone to share their recommendations, as there’s always a new exciting spot waiting to be discovered in Nashville’s vibrant coffee culture.
