Bronx Zoo 🦜 Highlights

This has been sitting in my drafts for too long!!

A few weeks ago, my little sis took me to the Bronx Zoo! I hadn't been to a zoo in several years. The weather was absolutely perfect, not too sunny, and even though tickets were $$$ it was totally worth it!

Highlights included taking the Wild Asia Monorail to see rare horses, getting yelled at by snow leopards, the Mouse House, and feeding a shmillion Budgies 🦜🥰 Lunch was pretty good too, they actually have options for alternative diets! 🤯🥙

The Bronx Zoo is definitely one of my favorite zoos I've been to. If you're in the area, I HIGHLY recommend it!! 🤩

... Read moreWow, reading about my Bronx Zoo trip again makes me want to go back! It truly is an incredible place, and if you're planning a visit, I've got a few more insights to share to make your day even better. First off, let's talk more about the Wild Asia Monorail. It was hands-down one of the coolest parts of our day! This isn't just a ride; it's a genuine safari-like experience that takes you through sprawling habitats you can't easily access on foot. We saw so many incredible animals, including those majestic Przewalski's horses – an animal I'd only ever seen in books! Seriously, the monorail offers unique perspectives on the Asian wildlife, making you feel like you're really exploring a different continent. My best tip? Try to snag a window seat for the best views, and go earlier in the day when the animals are often more active. It's a great way to cover a lot of ground and see some of the zoo's more elusive residents without too much walking. Speaking of animals, you absolutely have to visit the Himalayan Highlands. This area is home to some truly stunning creatures. We were lucky enough to spot a red panda curled up and looking incredibly "eepy" – it was absolutely adorable! But don't just look for the cute ones; the highlight for me was seeing a magnificent snow leopard. Let me tell you, they are even more impressive in person, and if you're lucky, you might even hear one vocalize, like the loud one we encountered! It's an immersive exhibit that really transports you to the mountainous regions of Asia. If you're visiting with family, especially little ones, I heard great things about the Children's Zoo and its petting zoo experiences. While we didn't get to explore it ourselves this time, I know they often have opportunities for kids to interact with friendly farm animals, like goats feeding. It's a fantastic way for younger visitors to get up close and personal with animals in a safe and educational environment, fostering that early love for wildlife. Definitely something to look into if you're planning a family day out! One thing that really impressed me about the Bronx Zoo, and something I learned more about later, is its connection to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). Knowing that your ticket contributes to global conservation efforts makes the visit even more meaningful. They're doing incredible work protecting species like the red panda and other endangered animals around the world. It’s inspiring to see how much they care, and it adds another layer of appreciation to every exhibit. Finally, a few practical tips! Wear comfy shoes – the zoo is HUGE! There are plenty of food options, and as I mentioned, they even cater to alternative diets, which was a pleasant surprise. Hydration is key on a big day out, especially if the weather is as perfect as it was for us. And don't forget to check their website before you go for any special events or exhibit closures. Planning ahead can really help maximize your time. Enjoy your adventure!
