Transform Oreos into the cutest
Thanksgiving pops turkeys with only oreos, chocolate, fondant (red, yellow and orange) and a tootsie roll 🍁 🦃 🍁
Hey everyone! I absolutely adore making festive treats, and these OREO TURKEY POPS are a huge hit every Thanksgiving. When I first tried making them, I was surprised how simple it was to transform a regular Oreo into such a cute holiday centerpiece. I wanted to share my detailed step-by-step guide so you can easily whip up these adorable turkeys too! First things first, gather your ingredients: a package of Oreos (double-stuffed works best for a rounder base!), chocolate melting wafers (milk or dark, your preference), lollipop sticks, and a few colors of fondant – red, yellow, and orange for the wattle, beak, and feet. Don't forget those small Tootsie Rolls for the head! Step-by-Step Guide to Your Cutest Oreo Turkey Pops: Prepare Your Oreos: Gently twist each Oreo apart, keeping the cream filling on one side. This is where your lollipop stick will go. Dip the tip of a lollipop stick into melted chocolate, then press it firmly into the cream filling. Carefully place the other Oreo half back on top, sandwiching the stick. Place them on parchment paper and let them chill in the fridge for about 10-15 minutes to set the stick. This prevents your pops from wobbling later! Melt the Chocolate: While your Oreos are chilling, melt your chocolate wafers. I usually do this in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Make sure it's not too hot, or it might melt your Oreos! Dip Your Pops: Once the sticks are set, dip each Oreo pop into the melted chocolate, coating it completely. Gently tap off any excess chocolate. Immediately place them back on the parchment paper. Create the Turkey Features: This is the fun part! Tail Feathers: Before the chocolate sets, quickly arrange small candies (like candy corn or even small chocolate-covered pretzels) in an arc on the top half of the Oreo to resemble tail feathers. I've found that pressing them lightly into the wet chocolate works perfectly. If your chocolate has already set, you can use a tiny dab of melted chocolate as "glue." Head & Wattle: For the head, take a small piece of a Tootsie Roll, roll it into a ball, and then slightly flatten it. Use a tiny piece of red fondant for the wattle and a tiny piece of yellow or orange fondant for the beak. Attach these to the Tootsie Roll head with a tiny dab of melted chocolate. Feet: Roll out thin pieces of orange or yellow fondant and cut out two small 'V' shapes for the feet. Assemble Your Turkey: Once the dipped Oreo is completely set (you can pop them back in the fridge for a few minutes), attach the Tootsie Roll head to the front of the Oreo, just below the tail feathers, using a small dot of melted chocolate. Then, attach the fondant feet to the bottom edge of the Oreo. You can even add tiny edible candy eyes for extra cuteness! My Personal Tips for Success: Don't Rush the Chill Time: Letting the Oreo pops chill thoroughly after inserting the stick and after dipping in chocolate makes a huge difference in stability. Work with Fondant Quickly: Fondant can dry out, so keep it covered when not in use. A tiny bit of shortening on your hands helps prevent sticking. Get Creative with Feathers: While candy corn is classic, I've also used colorful sprinkles or even crushed nuts for a different texture for the tail feathers. Involve the Kids: This is such a fantastic project for little hands! My kids love helping with the fondant shapes and decorating the feathers. It makes for wonderful family memories during the holidays. These OREO TURKEY POPS are not just delicious; they're a delightful way to add a personalized, festive touch to your Thanksgiving dessert spread. Happy crafting!
