Your local library and independent bookstores also have incredible staff who are often in tune with what's currently buzzing. Don't underestimate the power of word-of-mouth from fellow readers; a personal recommendation often leads to a truly popular-for-you read! Certain genres consistently produce globally popular books. Fantasy, with its immersive worlds and complex characters, often creates dedicated fanbases, much like the Empire of Storms series I reviewed. Romance novels, with their heartwarming plots and relatable characters, are always a hit. Thrillers keep us on the edge of our seats, while historical fiction can transport us to another time and place, offering both entertainment and insight. And, of course, powerful non-fiction and memoirs can capture the zeitgeist perfectly, becoming essential reads for many. Ultimately, while there are objectively 'most popular' books in the world based on sales or awards, what truly matters is what's popular *to you*.
