This means that the logging of a computer system or the dissemination, forwarding of false information or misrepresenting, falsifying or unrealistic computer information to cause damage to the public or to the security of the country may be involved in the offence under the Computer Offences Act 2007 and as amended 2017 as follows:
âĒ Section 14 (1) Whoever introduces into a computer system where the computer information is false by means of causing damage to the public is punishable by imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years or a fine not exceeding 100,000 baht or a fine.
âĒ Section 14 (2) Whoever introduces a computer system in which the computer information is false, as a matter likely to cause damage to national security, public safety, or cause public alarm, is punishable by imprisonment for up to 5 years or a fine of up to 100,000 baht or a fine.
âĒ Section 14 (5) Whoever publishes or forwards computer information knowing that it is false under section 14 (1) or (2) shall be liable to the same penalty as anyone who directs such information into the computer system.
The National Security Service asks for public cooperation, "stop before sharing, check before believing," and share social media creatively, responsibly and respectfully with the facts to maintain social order, as well as protect national institutions from being targeted by disinformation in the digital world.
