When I get an idea in my head that excites me… im like a dog with a bone. It becomes pretty much all I can think about and I cant close the loop until I’ve done the thing. I remember a few months ago seeing one of many comments about my appearance… and I had the sick thought - “I bet if I gave them everything they wanted they wouldn’t like that either”
And that was it… I spiraled inward from there.
And for the record.. not that I think this should even need explaining… but I went through great lengths during this project to be sure that this was centered around my own personal experiences and decision making. I don’t judge or shame anyone who has decided to modify themselves. YOUR BODY, YOUR CHOICE. Who knows, I may even too someday. But if I do, itll be because I chose it for myself.
This was a display of what it would look like, in my case, if cruelty won.
Dealing with negative comments about appearance can be incredibly challenging and often triggers deep, emotional responses. From personal experience, I’ve found that when I focus too much on others' opinions, especially harsh ones, it’s easy to spiral inward and lose sight of my own values and self-worth. It’s important to remember that everyone’s body journey is unique, and no one should feel pressured to physically change themselves to please the world. In my case, I realized that the more I tried to cater to others’ expectations, the less authentic I felt. This realization was painful but necessary. It taught me the value of setting boundaries with external opinions and reminding myself that true happiness comes from self-acceptance. Choosing to modify one's body should always be a personal and empowered decision, never a response to cruelty or judgment. I also learned that the cycle of obsessing over what others think can consume your mental space, making it difficult to focus on anything else until you resolve your feelings about it. This fixation can inhibit healing and growth. Therefore, cultivating self-compassion and seeking supportive communities can be powerful steps toward regaining control. Ultimately, by sharing my experience, I hope to encourage others to prioritize their own choices and embrace the freedom that comes with body autonomy. It’s okay to have doubts and difficult emotions, but how we respond to them defines our journey. Choosing ourselves, our well-being, and our happiness above criticism is an act of courage and self-love.
