Do/did your babies like jar meat baby food?
As a mom of 2, a 3 yr old and an 8 month old, I have noticed that my babies dislike these jar 🫙 baby foods. They will eat the fruit & veggie blends but it’s a no for the meat products.
If your kids are like mine, what protein did you feed them and how did or do you prepare it?
I’m just a mother looking for and sharing secrets and solutions to everyday motherhood problems!
Looking forward to engaging with y’all! 🫶🏾

It's so relatable to hear that your little ones aren't keen on jarred meat baby food! As a fellow mom, I've definitely been there, wondering why some foods are an instant hit and others get a definite 'no thank you' from my baby. It really gets you thinking, 'why does baby food taste bad' to them when it's supposed to be so nutritious? From my experience and research, there are a few reasons why babies might turn their noses up at jarred meat. Often, the taste and texture can be quite different from freshly prepared foods. Jarred meats are usually very bland, and the processing can give them a slightly metallic or simply unappetizing flavor profile to a developing palate. The texture can also be a challenge – sometimes too gummy, sometimes too watery, and rarely mimicking the natural chewiness of fresh meat. My thought is that we, as adults, wouldn't always love eating the same pureed, bland foods every day either! Babies are exploring a whole new world of tastes and textures, and it's completely normal for them to have preferences. If your baby is like mine and isn't a fan of those jarred meat options, don't worry, there are tons of fantastic and easy-to-prepare protein alternatives you can offer! When my little one wasn't keen on jarred chicken, I started experimenting. One of my go-to's became lentils. They're packed with protein and iron, and you can cook them until very soft, then mash them or blend into a smooth puree with a little breast milk, formula, or low-sodium vegetable broth. They mix wonderfully with sweet potato or carrot puree, too, adding a familiar sweetness. Another great option is eggs. Scrambled eggs, finely chopped hard-boiled eggs, or even omelet strips can be fantastic and quick protein sources. Just make sure they're fully cooked. For variety, I often offer soft, flaky fish like salmon or cod, steamed and then gently flaked into tiny pieces. It’s naturally soft and easy for babies to manage. Tofu is also incredibly versatile; you can mash it, crumble it, or cut it into finger-sized strips and pan-fry it lightly until golden. Now, regarding preparation – that's where the magic truly happens to make these foods appealing. To enhance the flavor of freshly cooked meats like chicken or turkey, try simmering them in a little water with a bay leaf or a tiny pinch of mild herbs like dill or parsley (always check for allergens and introduce new foods one at a time). Once cooked, shred or finely mince the meat, then blend it with some low-sodium chicken broth, breast milk, or a favorite fruit/vegetable puree. Mixing meat with a sweet puree like apple or pear can sometimes make it more palatable initially. For textures, if your baby is ready for more than just smooth purees, consider a baby-led weaning approach. Offering small, soft, melt-in-the-mouth pieces of cooked chicken, well-done ground beef crumbles, or even soft-cooked beans can encourage self-feeding and exploration. Remember, presentation matters too! Sometimes just serving the same food in a different way, or alongside something they already love, can make all the difference. It's a journey of discovery for both you and your little one, so keep experimenting and trust your instincts!
