Snippets from a hectic shift ☺️
I wish I can take more pictures however it can get hectic in the OR that I can’t even get ahold of my phone. 🥹 Today, our patients were fairly sick so we were game faces on. First case was anterior and posterior approach so we have to start with the patient on their back and flipped them over for the next part of the case. We almost coded the second patient on the table! Films have to be taken during the cases with C-Arm and O-Arm multiple times so that means a lot of calling, running and going under the sheets for me today. 😂 Challenges are expected in our profession so we have to suck it up and give our 100%.
Most importantly, I have to be mindful of our patients’ privacy and confidentiality at all times! So we keep it very demure here. 👉🏽🙂↕️👈🏽

Operating room nursing is a demanding and rewarding profession that requires a strong commitment to patient care and teamwork. During my recent shift, I encountered two spine surgeries that kept us on our toes. We must always be prepared for sudden shifts in the patient's condition, such as the near-coding incident we experienced with our second patient. Communication is vital; utilizing technology like C-Arms and O-Arms for imaging requires swift coordination among the surgical team. It's during these moments of urgency that our skills and focus are put to the test. Additionally, being mindful of patient confidentiality is paramount, even when sharing snippets of our experiences. On a personal note, I often reflect on the lessons learned during these high-pressure situations. Building rapport with colleagues enhances our efficiency and can make a world of difference in stressful moments. For those in the nursing field or considering it, understanding the intricate dynamics of operating room teams can provide insights into the importance of teamwork and continuous learning. Each shift contributes to our growth within the nursing profession, making every experience a valuable lesson in resilience and compassion.
