Platonic friendships while in a relationship? 🤔
Hey Zesties! 🍋✨
Would you think it's appropriate to maintain platonic friendships with your opposite-sex friends if you're in a committed relationship/marriage? 🤨
Personally, I would trust that it is appropriate, given that my partner and I communicate about it openly, respect and understand each other's feelings, and set clear boundaries for the opposite party. 😌
HOWEVER... it does make me wonder...
👉🏻 Is it okay to set boundaries even if you've known him/her for a long time?
👉🏻 What would you do if he/she spoke negatively about you to your partner?
👉🏻 Are there specific actions or words from him/her that would make you feel really triggered or upset?
👉🏻 Is it okay to text/call him/her daily to share about their daily life? (e.g., what he/she is doing for the weekend or what he/she is eating for lunch/dinner?)
👉🏻 If you faced a situation where it becomes "too much" — would you prefer to end a friendship or end a relationship?
I'm sure many people share similar considerations...
Hence, your thoughts and advice would be much appreciated! 🫰🏻🥰
Maintaining platonic friendships while in a relationship can be fulfilling but also requires thoughtful boundaries. From personal experience, even long-standing friendships evolve when you enter a committed relationship, so setting clear limits on communication and interaction is essential to prevent misunderstandings. For example, I found that discussing daily texting habits with my partner helped establish what felt comfortable for both of us, balancing connection without feeling overwhelming. If a friend ever spoke negatively about me to my partner, I’d want honest conversations with both parties to address feelings openly and ensure respect is upheld. It's also important to recognize signs that trigger discomfort, such as sneaky behaviors or emotional dependence on the friendship, which can threaten your romantic relationship. In such situations, prioritizing the health of your committed partnership might mean limiting or even ending certain platonic friendships. Ultimately, clear communication, mutual respect, and trust are the foundation for successfully maintaining platonic friendships while respecting your relationship boundaries.

depends on how long I have known my boyfriend / husband. if I know my male friend longer than my boyfriend/husband, I will choose to end the relationship with my bf/husband instead.
