What does scripture say about this?
In recent years, some have tried to blend Christianity with practices such as spell-casting, tarot, energy work, spirit communication, moon rituals, or other forms of occultism referring to it as “Christian witchcraft.”
However, Scripture repeatedly and consistently condemns all forms of witchcraft, divination, sorcery, and contact with spiritual forces outside of God’s authority.
🩷 1. God Explicitly Forbids All Occult Practices
Deuteronomy 18:10-12 KJV
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, [11] Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. [12] For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
God’s command is unconditional and absolute.
The passage lists every category of occult practice: divination, enchantments, spirit communication, charms, sorcery, and more.
God calls these practices an abomination, meaning utterly detestable.
The reason God judged the pagan nations was because of these exact behaviors.
Any attempt to blend witchcraft with Christianity directly violates God’s clear instructions.
If God condemned it then, He still condemns it now His nature and standards do not change.
🩷 2. Occult Practices Defile the One Who Engages in Them
Leviticus 19:31 KJV
Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
Seeking occult guidance spiritually defiles a person.
“Familiar spirits” refers to demonic entities masquerading as guides, ancestors, angels, or “energies.”
God says: Do not seek them. Do not follow them.
Anything that involves channeling, speaking with spirits, energy reading, or divination opens a person to spiritual deception.
Calling this “Christian” does not cleanse it God says it defiles, not empowers.
🩷 3. Witchcraft Deserves Judgment Because It Stands Against God
Exodus 22:18 KJV
Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
In ancient Israel, witchcraft was punishable by death.
This shows the severity of the sin and the spiritual danger it represented.
Witchcraft was not a minor issue it was spiritual rebellion that threatened the purity of God’s people.
While Christians today are not called to enforce civil penalties from the Old Testament law, the seriousness of the command reveals how God views the occult:
Witchcraft is not a harmless “gift” it is spiritual treason.
🩷 4. Witchcraft Is Listed Among the Works of the Flesh
Galatians 5:19-21 KJV
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, [20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, [21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Witchcraft is not a spiritual gift it is a “work of the flesh.”
Paul warns that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
New Testament believers are commanded to reject these practices, not redefine them.
Any form of occult practice even when covered with Christian words places a person outside the will of God. It is incompatible with walking in the Spirit and demonstrates a life not surrendered to Christ.
🩷 5. Witchcraft Is Rooted in Rebellion Against God
1 Samuel 15:23 KJV
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
Witchcraft is rooted in rebellion seeking spiritual power or knowledge apart from God.
It is also connected to idolatry (placing another power above God).
Saul’s downfall came from rejecting the Word of the Lord, just as occult practices reject God’s authority.
Christian witchcraft is ultimately rebellion in religious clothing choosing spiritual autonomy instead of submission to Christ. Whenever we look to spiritual sources outside God, we participate in the very rebellion He condemns.
🩷 6. Why “Christian Witchcraft” Cannot Exist
Because the Bible teaches:
You cannot serve two spiritual masters (Matthew 6:24).
Light and darkness cannot fellowship (2 Corinthians 6:14–16).
The Holy Spirit does not empower forbidden practices (John 16:13; Acts 1:8).
Christian witchcraft is impossible because:
Witchcraft sources power from spirits not of God.
God strictly forbids the practices themselves.
Mixing the occult with Christianity is a form of spiritual syncretism something God judges throughout Scripture.
Real power comes from the Holy Spirit, not spells, rituals, energies, or divination.
🩷 7. Believers are called to rely on
The Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
The Word of God (Hebrews 4:12)
Prayer (Philippians 4:6)
The name of Jesus (Luke 10:17)
The spiritual life of a Christian comes through relationship, not ritual magic; through obedience, not spiritual manipulation. The Bible leaves no room for a blend between Christianity and witchcraft. God calls His people to purity, to holiness, and to reliance on Him alone. Witchcraft of any kind no matter how “Christian” it claims to be stands against the truth of Scripture, the character of God, and the work of the Holy Spirit
