Lazy Girl College Hacks: 9 Tips for a Higher GPA📚🎓

Yes, I know “why is Chalie posting college content?” I’m here mainly for fitness advice and everything health-related, but I’m also a lifestyle account—and a big part of my life is being a college student and let’s be real—college can be overwhelming, especially when it feels like there’s a never-ending stream of lectures, assignments, and exams.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably found yourself struggling to stay focused and get things done. But guess what? Being a “lazy girl” doesn’t mean you can’t succeed. With a few clever hacks, you can breeze through your college days without burning out.

Here are 9 helpful hacks that’ll keep you on track, even when you’re having a hard time focusing.

🍋1. Skip the Notes, Listen First

Taking notes during class can sometimes be more distracting than helpful. Instead of scribbling away and missing key points, try focusing entirely on what the professor is saying. Listen intently, absorb the information, and then when you get home, review the lecture slides. This way, you can make detailed notes at your own pace, ensuring you capture all the important details.

ℹ️Tools to Help:

✅Otter.ai: This app transcribes lectures in real time, allowing you to focus on listening rather than writing. You can later review the transcription, highlight key points, and create your notes from there.

✅Evernote: If you prefer jotting down notes digitally, Evernote lets you organize your thoughts quickly. You can record voice notes, take pictures of slides, and add them to your notes, all in one place.

🍋2. Skim, Don’t Read

Textbooks are massive, and let’s face it, you don’t have time to read every page. The trick? Skim through the chapters instead of reading every word. Focus on headings, subheadings, summaries, and any bolded or highlighted terms. Pair this with your lecture notes for a more targeted study approach. Remember, the key is to understand the core concepts, not to memorize every line.

ℹ️Tools to Help:

✅SummarizeBot: If you’re reading an online textbook, this AI-powered tool can summarize long articles or chapters into digestible snippets. It’s perfect for grabbing the most important information quickly.

✅Course Hero: Sometimes, textbooks come with study guides or summaries that you can use to focus on key concepts. Course Hero often has these resources available, saving you tons of time.

🍋3. Turn Lecture Slides into Study Guides

Lecture slides are goldmines for exams. Professors often pull exam questions directly from their slides. After each class, spend some time turning these slides into study guides. Add extra notes, examples, and anything that helps clarify the concepts. You’ll have a customized study guide ready when exams roll around, without the stress of last-minute cramming.

ℹ️Tools to Help:

✅OneNote: This app is perfect for turning slides into study guides. You can import the slides directly, annotate them with your notes, and organize everything by class or topic.

✅Notion: Notion allows you to create dynamic study guides with embedded lecture slides, notes, and even practice questions. It’s a powerful tool that can turn a boring slide deck into an interactive learning resource.

🍋4. Use the 20-Minute Study Rule

If focusing for long periods feels impossible, try breaking your study time into 20-minute chunks. Study for 20 minutes, then take a 5-10 minute break to stretch, grab a snack, or check your phone. This keeps your mind fresh and helps maintain your concentration. You’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish with this method.

ℹ️Tools to Help:

✅Pomodone: Based on the Pomodoro Technique, this app helps you manage your study sessions in 20/25-minute intervals with 5-minute breaks. It’s customizable, so you can tweak the timings to suit your preference.

✅Forest: This app turns your focus into a game. Set a timer for your study session, and while you work, a tree grows in your virtual forest. If you leave the app, the tree dies, giving you an incentive to stay on task.

🍋5. Record Lectures for Later

Sometimes it’s hard to focus in real-time, and that’s okay! If your professor allows it, record the lectures on your phone. You can listen to them later when you’re more in the mood to focus or when you’re doing mindless tasks like walking to class or doing laundry. This way, you can reinforce what you learned without actively studying.

ℹ️Tools to Help:

✅Voice Memos (iOS) or Easy Voice Recorder (Android): These apps are straightforward for recording lectures. The recordings are easy to access and can be replayed at any time, letting you go over parts you missed or didn’t understand.

✅Google Keep: Record audio directly into Google Keep, which will automatically transcribe it. You can add notes or reminders to specific parts of the recording, making it easier to review later.

🍋6. Create a Study Environment You Love

If you dread studying because your space is cluttered or uninspiring, change it up. Create a study environment that you actually want to spend time in. Whether it’s a cozy corner with your favorite candles and blankets or a chic coffee shop with a latte in hand, a pleasant environment can drastically improve your focus and productivity.

ℹ️Tools to Help:

✅Pinterest: Search for study nook inspirations to help you design a space that feels cozy and motivating.

✅Spotify or YouTube: Create a playlist of study music, like lo-fi beats or classical music, to help you stay focused and relaxed in your new study space.

🍋7. Use Mind Maps Instead of Notes

Mind maps are perfect for visual learners. Instead of writing out pages of notes, create a mind map that connects ideas, concepts, and themes from your lectures. This method allows you to see the big picture and how everything fits together, making it easier to remember and understand complex topics.

ℹ️Tools to Help:

✅MindMeister: This online mind mapping tool is user-friendly and allows you to collaborate with others. You can create detailed maps that connect concepts visually, which is great for studying complex subjects.

✅Coggle: Another mind-mapping tool that’s simple and effective. It’s great for brainstorming and organizing your thoughts visually.

🍋8. Turn Study Breaks into Power Sessions

Breaks are essential, but make them count. Instead of scrolling through social media for 10 minutes, do something that recharges you. A quick workout, a short walk, or even a few minutes of meditation can re-energize you and improve your focus when you return to studying.

ℹ️Tools to Help:

✅Headspace: This app offers guided meditation sessions that range from 1 to 10 minutes, perfect for quick study breaks. It helps clear your mind and reduce stress, so you return to studying feeling refreshed.

✅7 Minute Workout: If you need to get your blood pumping, this app provides quick, effective workouts that you can do in just a few minutes. It’s an excellent way to stay active without cutting into your study time.

🍋9. Prioritize What Matters Most

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of assignments and readings, but not everything is a priority. Learn to prioritize tasks based on their impact. Focus on assignments that carry the most weight and skim through tasks that won’t significantly affect your grades. This strategic approach will help you stay on top of your workload without burning out.

ℹ️Tools to Help:

✅Trello: This project management tool is great for organizing tasks by priority. Create boards for your classes, and use cards to list assignments and readings.

✅Move tasks to different columns (e.g., “To Do,” “In Progress,” “Done”) to keep track of what’s most important.

✅Todoist: A simple yet powerful to-do list app that helps you prioritize tasks. You can label tasks by priority level, set deadlines, and get reminders, so you always know what needs your attention first.

Balancing the gym, social life, family, friends, my boyfriend, my dog, and pretty much everything else with school can be overwhelming, and sometimes I just feel tired and lazy. I get how hard it can be to focus and keep your GPA high, especially if you need it for work or getting into other schools. That’s why I’m sharing my tips and tricks to help you out.

I’ll be posting more college hacks throughout the month as part of a college campaign, so stay tuned for more! But don’t worry, I’ll still be posting all my usual fitness content and everything else you love.

College doesn’t have to be a constant grind. By using these lazy girl hacks, you can manage your time more effectively, reduce stress, and actually enjoy the experience. Remember, it’s all about working smarter, not harder.

So go ahead, give these hacks a try, and see how much easier college life can be!

... Read moreIt's totally normal to feel like there's never enough time in college, especially when you're trying to balance academics, social life, and maybe even a part-time job. I remember many nights feeling completely swamped, wondering how some of my friends seemed to manage it all so effortlessly. That’s when I realized it wasn't about studying *more*, but studying *smarter*. These college hacks aren't just about getting by; they’re about thriving without constantly feeling overwhelmed. One of the biggest game-changers for me, beyond just the 20-minute study rule, was learning how to really plan my week. When I first started, my notebook with a handwritten study plan was just a list of due dates. But I quickly upgraded that into a full-blown school life hack! Instead of just writing down assignments, I started blocking out specific times for each class and task. For example, if I had a big paper due, I wouldn't just write "Paper due Friday." I'd break it down: "Tuesday 7-8 PM: Outline for History Paper," "Wednesday 2-4 PM: Draft Intro & Body Paragraph 1." This way, even on my "lazy girl" days, I knew exactly what tiny step I needed to take. It’s all about creating a flow that works for *you*, where your study time isn't a mountain, but a series of manageable hills. I even started batching similar tasks, like doing all my textbook skimming for different classes back-to-back, to get into a rhythm. And let’s be real, even with the best plans, motivation can dip. There were days I looked at my study schedule and just wanted to scroll through TikTok! That's when I had to come up with life hacks for school to trick my brain. If a task felt too big, I’d tell myself, "Just open the document for 5 minutes." Usually, those 5 minutes turned into 20, and sometimes even an hour! Another thing I found incredibly helpful was changing my cozy study environment for different tasks. I’d do reading at a coffee shop, but then tackle problem sets in the quiet library. Small rewards also worked wonders – finishing a tough chapter meant a 10-minute break with my favorite snack. It really helps GET A HIGH GPA WITHOUT TRYING SO HARD when you understand how your own motivation works. Finally, let's talk about what happens after class, especially when you're a student reviewing notes at home. It's easy to just re-read everything, but that’s not active learning. My biggest breakthrough was when I started transforming my notes. After recording lectures and making detailed notes from slides, I’d turn them into flashcards or create mind maps. The mind maps were especially effective for visual learners like me – seeing how concepts connected visually made a huge difference. I'd quiz myself out loud as if I were explaining it to someone else. If I could explain it clearly, I knew I understood it. If not, I knew exactly where to review. This active recall technique, combined with spaced repetition (reviewing difficult topics more often over time), truly cemented the information in my brain. So, whether you're navigating freshman year or grinding through grad school, remember that college is a marathon, not a sprint. These college hacks are designed to help you run it smarter, making the journey more enjoyable and less stressful. You've got this!
