Tips to get better grades even if you have ADHD! ✨

2025/8/5 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! Building on those initial tips, I wanted to share a few more strategies that were game-changers for me in college, especially when facing those moments where focus felt impossible. Getting a 4.5 GPA with ADHD isn't just about smart study methods; it's about building a whole system that supports your unique brain. First, let's talk more about leveraging AI tools for ADHD study aids. Beyond just generating summaries, I found tools like Otter.ai incredibly helpful for transcribing lectures – having a searchable transcript meant I could re-engage with content I might have zoned out on during class. For concept mapping, tools like Miro or Coggle (AI-powered options exist too!) helped me visualize complex information in ways my ADHD brain could grasp, which is vital for effective learning. Experiment with AI flashcard generators too; they can create varied question types that keep active recall engaging, building on the 'question bank method' idea. Another area that transformed my 'how to study effectively with ADHD' journey was refining my time management beyond simple time blocking. While setting specific study periods is great, I also embraced a modified Pomodoro Technique. Instead of strict 25/5 breaks, I often did 15-20 minute sprints followed by a 5-10 minute active break – getting up, stretching, or even a quick walk. This short burst of physical activity helped reset my focus. I also discovered the power of 'body doubling,' even virtually. Sometimes, just having a friend on a video call studying quietly alongside me, or using a 'study with me' YouTube channel, made it so much easier to stay on task. It's like an external accountability partner without the pressure. And for the study environment, extending beyond just 'greyscaling your phone.' Think about your sensory input. I found noise-canceling headphones indispensable, not just for blocking sound, but for creating a consistent auditory environment that signaled 'focus time.' My physical desk setup was also key – having everything organized, but not too sterile. I'd use plants (as seen in the OCR image description!) or a specific scent (linking back to the 'perfume method' principle) to create a positive association with my study space. The goal is to minimize unintentional distractions while allowing for intentional sensory engagement that aids focus. Finally, managing energy and preventing burnout is an often-overlooked ADHD study strategy for college. It’s not just about studying harder, but smarter, and knowing when to rest. I learned to schedule 'brain breaks' that weren't just unproductive scrolling. This meant short walks, listening to music, or even tidying a small area. Also, prioritizing sleep and nutrition became non-negotiable. When my basic needs were met, my executive function improved dramatically, making all the other tips much more effective. Achieving a 4.5 GPA with ADHD isn't about perfection; it's about building sustainable habits that work with your brain, not against it.
