In honor of Earth Day 🌎💚💙

With Earth Day just around the corner (or having just passed!), I wanted to share some thoughts on how we can truly appreciate our amazing planet – and what better way than through photography? I've always loved capturing moments, and Earth Day is the perfect excuse to get out there and snap some incredible shots of nature's beauty. When I think about what makes our world so special, it's those breathtaking views we often take for granted. Remember that feeling of seeing a vibrant sunset painting the sky with oranges and blues, or driving through a lush green forest on a winding road? Those are the moments we need to freeze in time. If you're planning your own Earth Day photoshoot, here are a few tips I've learned along the way. First, timing is everything! The golden hour – right after sunrise or before sunset – offers the most magical light. I've gotten some of my best shots of serene lake scenes and dramatic sunset skies during this time. Next, think about your location. Our OCR images gave me so much inspiration! You don't need to travel far. Even an urban street scene can look incredible at sunset if you find the right angle. But if you can get out to a forested landscape or a mountainous landscape, the possibilities are endless. Look for details – a single pine tree, a field of colorful tulips, or the way light filters through the trees. Don't be afraid to experiment with different perspectives. Try getting low to capture flowers, or find a high vantage point for a panoramic view. And remember, the goal isn't just a pretty picture; it's about connecting with nature. When I'm out there with my camera, I feel such a deep sense of peace and gratitude for this beautiful and amazing place we call home. My personal favorite subjects often include those stunning sunsets that change every single day. Whether it's over a highway, a lake, or even just a residential street, the sky puts on an incredible show. And don't forget the small things – the delicate petals of a flower, the texture of tree bark, or the sparkle of water. Beyond just taking photos, an Earth Day photoshoot is a great prompt to think about protecting our environment. As the original post said, 'Always protect the world on which we stand on.'
