Let’s bring back common sense please… #fyp #commonsense #realtalk #highereducation #mentalhealth
In today’s world, it’s easy to equate academic achievements with intelligence, but the reality is far more nuanced. Having a degree is a milestone and reflects dedication, yet it doesn’t automatically mean a person possesses practical wisdom or emotional intelligence. I have seen many situations where individuals with advanced degrees struggled with everyday problem-solving or social interactions, while others without formal education excelled simply because they applied common sense. Common sense is often overlooked in discussions about success. It involves sound judgment based on experience rather than just formal knowledge. For example, mental health awareness plays a huge role in how we manage challenges, and this isn't taught in every classroom. Recognizing and addressing mental health issues is a form of intelligence that goes beyond book smarts. Furthermore, higher education can sometimes emphasize memorization and theory over critical thinking and real-world application. Encouraging conversations about mental health, self-awareness, and practical skills can help bridge the gap between education and true intelligence. From personal experience, I’ve found that combining academic knowledge with empathy, critical thinking, and common sense leads to better outcomes both professionally and personally. So while degrees open doors, the ability to navigate life’s complexities often depends on wisdom that isn’t measured by transcripts but learned through life itself.
