sprained ankle
#lemon8diarychallenge I definitely inherited the clumsy genes in my family…
Story; I got to gymnastics and we were doing rotations, and so i start at mine, and it was where the mats get gradually bigger. ( mind you the highest one is like 2 feet high) anyway, I jump off the mat and landed wrong and the little ball in my ankle made a crunch noise, but the swelling has gone down a little.#injuredmyself #clumsy #imjustagirl
Ugh, so picking up from my last post about my gymnastics ankle sprain – it's been a journey, seriously! After that scary crunch, my foot quickly started to swell up, and yeah, I definitely have that classic 'goose egg on ankle' situation now. It’s wild how fast it happened! You can even see some bruising starting to appear, which I've learned is pretty common after a twisted ankle. It started as a faint discoloration, but now it’s getting a bit darker, which I guess is normal for ankle bruising after a sprain. It's not just the pain, but the discoloration that makes it look so dramatic! My first thought was, 'Can a sprained ankle heal on its own?' And from what I've looked up and heard from friends, a lot of mild sprains (like maybe a Grade 1 ankle sprain bruising, hopefully!) can heal on their own with proper care, but it takes time and patience. It's definitely not a 'walk it off' kind of thing, and pushing it too soon can make it worse. The main advice everyone keeps telling me is the RICE method: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. I’ve been trying to keep my foot elevated as much as possible – literally propping it up on pillows higher than my heart whenever I’m sitting or lying down. And ice packs are becoming my new best friend, applying them for about 15-20 minutes every few hours, covered with a thin cloth, to help with the swollen ankle from injury. It really does make a difference in reducing the throbbing. Speaking of compression, I've been looking into ankle taping or strapping a sprained ankle. It seems like a good way to give the joint some support without completely immobilizing it, like a cast would. I haven't tried taping it myself yet – seems a bit tricky to do correctly – but I might ask a physical therapist or a trainer about it if this swelling doesn't go down much more or if I feel like I need more stability when I eventually try to move around more. For now, I'm using a simple elastic bandage, wrapping it firmly but not too tightly around the affected area, which helps, but I wonder if proper ankle taping would offer more stability and protection against re-injury. The goal is to support the joint without cutting off circulation, which is a fine line to walk! It's been a real lesson in listening to my body. I'm usually so active, so resting has been tough, but I know it's crucial for healing. The first few days with a swollen sprained ankle are definitely the worst, with that initial sharp pain and then the constant ache, but seeing the swelling start to go down, even a little, gives me hope. I'm just trying to be careful not to re-injure myself and to avoid putting too much weight on it. Anyone else had a similar experience with a foot sprain? What were your go-to remedies and how long did it take for your "goose egg" to fully disappear? Any tips for managing the bruising or getting back to normal activities safely? Let me know!
