POV: Freelancer Struggles…? 🥲
Happy May Day to all workers including us freelancers 🫶🏼
As freelancers, it's easy to feel isolated, especially when facing challenges like negotiating fair pay or understanding employment benefits. One experience that really resonated with me was attending a workshop on contractual rights organized by VICPA and NTUC. It highlighted the importance of knowing your rights and having a support network to turn to. Many freelancers I know have struggled with payment delays or unclear contract terms; these issues can be frustrating and stressful. What helped me the most was realizing that no one builds success alone—there's a whole community out there offering guidance and solidarity. NTUC's role in advocating for freelance workers often goes unnoticed. From providing platforms to address unfair treatment to helping us upgrade skills and manage living costs, their support is invaluable. Joining groups like VICPA connects creatives, from photographers to graphic designers, fostering not just professional growth but meaningful friendships. On days like May Day, I reflect on how collective efforts from unions, employers, and the government shape a more supportive environment for freelancers. If you're starting out or feeling overwhelmed, seek out these communities and educational opportunities—they made a real difference in my journey and can help you too.
