Okk so ignore the pictures, I wasn’t planning on posting them but HERES HOW I FELL IN LOVE WITH MY NATURAL HAIR
I just want to state that I currently love and have always liked my natural hair… the title isn’t true😭
But I didn’t actually love and feel comfortable with it until I started treating it correctly and wearing it how I wanted to wear it instead of how society made me feel I should wear it.
Before 2024, If I didn’t have braids then I would wear my natural hair in buns all the time. Not only is this unhealthy but I was only doing it to “hide” my natural hair. I didn’t think it was presentable unless it was in a puff or in a bun. One day I just went out of my comfort zone and did a braid out. From there I did wash and go’s and kinda experimented with different looks. Some I liked, some I didn’t. The point is I became comfortable with my hair.
I would always remind myself that my natural hair is presentable and appropriate for all occasions. Personally, I feel that there’s no such thing as getting your hair “done” because my hair is always done in its natural state. Once I got comfortable with my natural hair, I truly didn’t want to go back to weaves. I still wear them occasionally when I want a protective style but they no longer feel like a need to me.
... Read moreOkay, sis, if you've ever found yourself thinking 'I hate my 4c hair' or just generally feeling overwhelmed by your natural curls, I completely get it. There was a time I felt the same way! It’s so easy to get caught up in what we think our hair should look like or how society expects us to wear it. But truly, falling in love with your natural hair is a journey of self-acceptance and discovering its unique beauty!
My journey really shifted when I started focusing on health and consistency. It wasn't just about styling, but about nurturing my voluminous, curly natural hair. For those with type 4 hair, moisture is KEY! I found that a good wash day routine – gentle cleansing, deep conditioning, and then using a leave-in conditioner followed by a cream or gel – made a huge difference. Don't skip the deep conditioning; it's a game-changer for elasticity and softness. Also, protective styling like braids or twists, even just for a week or two, can give your strands a much-needed break from daily manipulation, contributing to healthy natural black hair growth.
When I decided to step out of my comfort zone of just hiding my hair in buns (which, let's be real, can be damaging!), I started experimenting. Braid-outs quickly became my go-to for defined curls. If you're looking for quick natural hairstyles for black women, a good braid-out or twist-out can last for days! Wash-and-gos are amazing for showing off your natural curl pattern, but they do require finding the right product cocktail for your hair. Don't be afraid to try different gels and creams to see what works best. I also discovered the joy of simple yet chic styles like high puffs – they’re so easy to do and look incredibly stylish, whether you're heading to work or a casual outing. For professional natural hairstyles for work, sleek high puffs or a neat low bun can be perfect. Even short natural hair styles can be incredibly versatile and chic, offering many natural black hair styles to choose from!
Experimentation is your best friend when it comes to products. What works for one person might not work for another. Look for products that are moisturizing and have good slip. I personally love curl creams for definition and gels for hold. And invest in a satin bonnet or pillowcase – it makes a huge difference in preventing frizz and dryness overnight. For those days you feel like your hair just isn't cooperating, remember it's okay to try a quick updo or even a cute head wrap. The goal is to feel comfortable and confident, not stressed!
Whether you have 4 inches long hair or a bountiful mane, whether it's 4c, 3b, or a mix of textures, every curl pattern is beautiful and unique. My biggest lesson was realizing that my natural hair is presentable and appropriate for all occasions, just as it is. There’s no need to feel like you have to 'fix' it to meet someone else's standards. Loving my naturally curly hair truly changed my confidence, and I hope sharing my journey helps you fall in love with yours too. Embrace those coils, kinks, and curls, because they are stunning!
I’m so happy for you..when people embrace everything about you themselves it’s amazing.☺️🌸
