Sometimes I need a laugh, other times a good cry, or maybe a mystery that keeps me guessing until the very last page. Speaking of matching books to moods, have you ever considered a 'mood cure' book? I've found that certain genres can genuinely shift my perspective or help me unwind. If I'm feeling stressed, I might reach for a cozy romance or a lighthearted contemporary read to escape. When I need to feel empowered or inspired, I gravitate towards non-fiction memoirs or thought-provoking historical fiction. And for those days when I just want to forget my worries and dive into pure escapism, a gripping thriller or a dark fantasy novel is usually the answer. It's amazing how a good book can be the best kind of therapy! My current stack is packed with some incredible options, and it's making my decision even harder! And then there's 'The Perfect Mother' by Aimee Molloy, which I've heard is absolutely captivating and keeps you on edge. To battle this book-picking paralysis, I've developed a few strategies. First, I sometimes pick based on the weather – a dark, rainy day practically screams for a suspenseful read like something co-written by Greer Hendricks, or the perfect mystery. Second, I look at the length; if I need a quick win, I go for a shorter novel. Third, and perhaps most importantly, I check my mood.
