Stirfry beancurd skin

Found beancurd skin at Bugis 四马路 area and tried this recipe I found online.

First, break up the skin and soak in soy sauce and water to soften it.

Next chop the veggies and mushrooms.

I also added vermicelli like the caifan stall.

Prepare the spices- I used cinnamon, cumin, cloves and pepper. Be generous with black sauce. Add salt and sugar to taste.

Stew for at least 20-30mins for the skin to soften.

It will make your home smell delicious!

Serve with steaming hot rice🍚

My mom loves it❤️💕

... Read moreBeancurd skin, also known as tofu skin, is incredibly versatile and can be prepared in various ways beyond just stir-frying. If you're new to cooking with it, soaking the skin in a soy sauce mixture is a great start to soften its texture and infuse flavor. For an extra umami boost, consider adding mushrooms like shiitake or enoki, as well as vermicelli noodles, which absorb the spices beautifully. When choosing your spices, I highly recommend experimenting with warming ones such as cinnamon and cumin combined with a pinch of cloves and freshly ground pepper. This combination not only enhances the taste but also creates an inviting aroma that fills your kitchen. For those who enjoy a bit of heat or want to explore different styles, beancurd skin can be adapted into spicy dishes by adding chili oil or fresh chili peppers. It's also a popular ingredient in seafood beancurd rolls and country-style beancurd, where it takes on new flavors and textures. If you're curious about making beancurd flower, know that beancurd skin can sometimes be used in creative ways as a base for such recipes, but the techniques differ. Lastly, serving your dish with steaming hot rice truly rounds out the meal, making it wholesome and satisfying. Cooking beancurd skin can be a fun way to diversify your meals with plant-based ingredients that are both nutritious and tasty.
