5 Things I Noticed Since Being Off TikTok
I decided to take a TT break in case of the ban and start a exploring Lemon8 🍋 more. I also felt like God was really pulling me to take a mental break from TikTok as I been using non stop really since the pandemic. The first couple days not being on it I noticed that was the first app I click to when I got in my phone. I had to literally rewire my mind to not instantly click on the app and try to find something else to do! I’ve been off Instagram for a loooooong time, but found that leaving Instagram was actually much easier than leaving TikTok. Instagram was full of comparison where TT was more where I got my news, information, and way to relate to people. In a lot of ways TT is great, but it’s good to take a digital detox from it and see what changes happen in your life too ❤️ #digitaldetox #slowliving
Taking a break from TikTok can feel daunting at first, just like it did for me. My thumb would instinctively reach for the app, even when I'd decided to step away! But pushing through that initial habit loop is where the real magic happens. If you're considering a digital detox, here’s how I tackled it and what deeper impacts I discovered beyond just less scrolling. First, setting clear boundaries is key. For me, it meant uninstalling the app for a set period, which dramatically helped in achieving LESS SCREEN TIME OVERALL. If uninstalling feels too extreme, try moving the app to a hard-to-find folder or utilizing your phone’s app limits. This small, conscious effort can interrupt the mindless opening of the app and give you a moment to choose a different activity. It's about retraining your brain, one tap at a time. Once I wasn't constantly bombarded with content, I noticed a significant reduction in mental clutter. This directly led to Less anxiety/fear in my daily life. Without the endless comparisons, the pressure to keep up, or the constant stream of often overwhelming news, my mind felt lighter and calmer. I realized how much subtle stress I'd been carrying without even knowing it! This newfound mental space allowed me to be MORE INTENTIONAL WITH DAILY ACTIVITIES. Instead of filling every quiet moment with a scroll, I started reading a book during my coffee break, listened to a podcast while doing chores, or simply observed the world around me. My focus improved, and I felt more present in my own life. Another beautiful outcome was Spending More Time In Nature. With more time and less digital distraction, I found myself drawn to outdoor activities. Daily walks became a ritual, and I appreciated the simple beauty of my surroundings more deeply. It's incredible how much you miss when your eyes are glued to a screen. This shift also had a wonderful ripple effect on my relationships, leading to BETTER QUALITY TIME WITH [my husband/loved ones]. Conversations felt richer, and interactions were more meaningful because I wasn't mentally (or physically) checking out to glance at my phone. We connected on a deeper level, enjoying activities together without the constant digital interruptions. If you're contemplating a TikTok break, remember it’s not about perfection, but about mindful engagement. Start small, pay attention to the changes, and adjust your approach as you go. Even a short break can offer immense clarity and help you reclaim your time, peace of mind, and connection to the world around you. It's a journey towards a more balanced and fulfilling digital life!
