This version is the same idea as the last one, but you stripped it down to a pop loop. Where the previous draft read like a short story with Sims lore, this one reads like something built to be sung in a stadium, chant the title, clap on the beat.
It loses some of the specific cruelty that made the first version sting, and it gains a much clearer emotional arc: I control, I enjoy it, I get caught, I realize I'm controlled too.
## Verse 1: the god tutorial
"I built a tiny house / Put a rug by the stove / Gave one Sim a hot tub / Gave another one a broom"
Instant class divide. Tiny house era, cozy-core details, but the economy is rigged from minute one. One gets leisure, one gets labor.
"I clicked on your little feelings / Like they were just mine / Waved a hand, dropped a ladder / Then I watched you lose your mind"
That's the thesis in four lines. You don't just control actions, you click on feelings as if they're inventory items. "Waved a hand, dropped a ladder" is the cleanest way you've said the pool murder trick yet, no explanation needed. The rhyme mine/mind makes it feel casual, which is the point, you're detached.
## Pre-Chorus 1: the ego check
"I made the rich one dance / I made the sad one eat / I made one freak out / Right in the neighbor’s street / I said, 'That’s my kingdom' / With a grin and a glare / Then I heard a tiny voice say, / 'Buddy, you’re not even there'"
This is more direct than "that's you" in the last draft. The voice isn't mystical, it's a buddy calling you out. "You're not even there" hits harder than "that's you" because it means you're so busy puppeteering you're dissociated from your own life. The grin and glare is a nice physical detail, you're enjoying it and you know it's wrong.
## Chorus: now it's a hook
"I'm just a Sim in a Sim game / You play me back, I feel the same / I bless my dolls, then I behave"
You collapsed the whole previous chorus into one line and repeated it. It's less poetic than "somebody's laughing up one more limb" but it's infinitely more singable. The new line "I bless my dolls, then I behave" is the moral mirror. You give your Sims blessings, then you turn around and obey whoever blesses you. It's a perfect loop of worship and control.
The parentheticals "(yeah, a Sim in a Sim game)" "(oh, the same)" are written for crowd response. This is built for a live show, not a headphone deep read.
## Verse 2: you admit the sadism
"I gave one all the upgrades / Gave one chaos for free / One got a gold-plated couch / One got a fire in the kitchen, see / I'd crown my favorite darling / Then I'd trap the rest in rain / Just for fun, just for laughs / Just to watch the little pain"
This is where you stop pretending it's about storytelling. "Just for fun, just for laughs / Just to watch the little pain" is a confession. The earlier version hid the cruelty behind interior design, this one says it out loud. The rhyme see/rain/pain is loose and childlike, which makes it creepier.
## Pre-Chorus 2: the sky glitches
"Then I saw a cursor blink / In the corner of my sky / Somebody out there giggled / And I knew I’d been the guy"
Beautiful image. Not a hand, not thunder, just a cursor blinking in your sky like a dead pixel in reality. The giggle is key, it's not angry god, it's a bored player. Same energy you had two verses ago.
"They were feeding me a purpose / With a tiny, shiny lie / Like, 'Go on, press that button' / While I’m asking, 'Why, why, why?'"
That turns the whole game loop into manipulation. Purpose as bait. The triple "why" is the first time your Sim-self talks back.
## Bridge and Breakdown: the philosophy gets plain
"How many floors above me? / How many hands on the wheel? / If I’m the one who’s dreaming / Who makes the dream feel real?"
You kept the floors image from the last draft, good, it's sticky. "Hands on the wheel" swaps the mouse for a car, connects back to your "Jesus take the wheel" lyric from earlier.
"Maybe we’re all just little loops / Going deep through endless graves"
Loops/graves is a great slant rhyme. Graves instead of games makes it mortal. It's not just Sims playing Sims, it's lives burying lives.
The breakdown leans all the way into the recursion:
"And if they made me / Who made them? / And if they made them / Who made then? / Round and round / Again and again / Little gods / In a paper game"
The typo "then" for "them" actually works, it sounds like a kid losing track mid-thought. "Paper game" is more fragile than the last version's "house." Paper tears. Gods made of paper are exactly as powerful as we are.
## Final chorus: you lose your name
"I made a world, then lost my name / I’m just a Sim in a Sim game"
That new line is the payoff. Creation costs identity. You become what you control.
### What changed from the previous version, and why it matters
- **Less lore, more feeling.** You cut "green bar," "bathroom plan," "polo shirt," "menu view." You traded Sims-player Easter eggs for universal lines anyone can sing. It makes it more accessible, less insider.
- **Clearer moral arc.** Old version: I am god, oh no I'm also a Sim, maybe gods are kids. New version: I am god, I like being cruel, I see the cursor, I realize I'm being farmed for clicks too, we are loops. It's a straight line.
- **Hook-first writing.** Repeating "I'm just a Sim in a Sim game" eight-plus times turns a clever concept into an earworm. The earlier "up one more limb" was more literary, this is more chantable.
- **Tone shift.** The old one was wry and a little sad. This one is playful and a little guilty. "Just for fun, just for laughs" owns the sadism instead of dressing it up.
If you want this to work on stage, this version wins. If you want it to work as a lyric sheet people underline, the previous draft had more texture. You could split the difference by keeping one or two of those specific images, maybe bring back the cursor blinking in the corner of the sky *and* the reflection in the menu view, let the player see himself as UI for a second.
Right now it's a perfect loop song about loops, and the last line tells the truth: you build the world, then you forget who you were before you started clicking.
