Back then, I pulled away from a lot of my friends. People around me kept saying things like, “You’ve changed,” or “He’s isolating you,” and I started to believe them. I thought maybe I was losing myself, and for a while, it really messed with my head.

But the truth is he wasn’t trying to control me. He was protecting me. He saw things I couldn’t, or maybe didn’t want to see. Some of the people I surrounded myself with weren’t really my friends. They thrived on drama, on keeping me stuck in old patterns, on pulling me into things that didn’t serve me.

Now, ten years later, we’re married. Stronger than ever. And looking back, I can see how right he was. A lot of those “friends” I used to defend so fiercely have taken paths I know I was never meant to follow. I’m not judging them. I just know that’s not the life I wanted. And if I’d stayed in that circle, I might’ve lost the chance to have this one.
