Outdoor art museum an hour from NYC 🖼️

Just an hour drive from the city, you can find one of the coolest art museums, Storm King Art Center!

It’s really popular in the fall for its foliage, but I think it’s a beautiful place to visit year round. I spent three hours here just wandering around and seeing all the different installations - it’s so much bigger than I expected.

You can get here by renting a car, or by taking the Metro North to Beacon and then calling an Uber. After you finish up here, make sure to stop by Matcha Thomas or Nilufer’s Home Kitchen in Beacon for a little snack for your trip home.

Aside from Marveling at the artistic displays, visitors can also enjoy an enriching educational experience at the center, often hosting art-related programs, workshops, and guided tours that delve into the history and significance of the works on display. In addition, Storm King is particularly famous for its fall colors, making it a hotspot for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Once you've explored the art, the nearby town of Beacon offers additional delights. Local favorites such as Matcha Thomas serve delicious treats perfect for a post-visit snack. Alternatively, Nilufer’s Home Kitchen provides an authentic taste of homemade comfort food. Combining your trip to Storm King with a brief stop in Beacon can make for a wonderfully balanced day trip full of culture and delicious cuisine. Whether you’re an art aficionado or just looking for a fresh escape from the city, visiting Storm King Art Center is a must.
