WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING POPULAR NYC SPOTS 🗽

Empire State Building - not worth it

Tickets cost around $40 and it is always packed. The view at the top is blocked by metal bars and the best views of the city skyline are ones where you can see the Empire State Building anyways, so you should visit Top of the Rock where you will see the Empire State Building and Central Park, the Edge in Hudson Yards, or go to a rooftop bar in Williamsburg or lower Manhattan .

The Metropolitan Museum of Art - worth it

Not only are the outside steps iconic, but it’s the largest museum in America with one of the greatest collections of art. They have tons of events including date night at the Met and a rooftop garden bar with beautiful views of Central Park. For New York State residents, admission is “pay what you wish”.

Central Park - worth it

There are so many beautiful spots to see in Central Park, everything from ponds, bridges, waterfalls, historical landmarks and huge lawns where you can have picnics. It’s the perfect place for strolling, running or biking, and attractions include the Met, the Zoo, Shakespeare in the Park, an ice skating rink/pickleball court, as well as a few restaurants.

Times Square - not worth it

There’s no reason to go near here unless you’re seeing a Broadway show, the shops are the same ones you will find in any large city, and it’s the most congested area of NYC.

Brooklyn Bridge - worth it

On a nice day I think crossing the Brooklyn Bridge is a fun activity whether you’re walking or biking. It’s only a 20 minute walk and if you’re going towards Brooklyn you’ll end in Dumbo which is a cute area to explore, with lots of restaurants, a huge waterfront park, flea markets and iconic streets.

9/11 Memorial & Museum - worth it

Although it’s super heavy, I highly recommend spending a half day there because there is so much to see, read, and learn about. The outdoor memorial is free while the inside museum requires tickets, admission is free for New Yorkers every first Monday of the month.

New York
2024/8/23 Edited to

... Read moreNew York City is a vibrant hub of culture, art, and history, hosting millions of visitors each year. Before diving into the city's myriad attractions, it's essential to plan in advance. Begin with the iconic Empire State Building; while the views are hyped, many find the experience underwhelming due to crowds and obstructed vistas. For breathtaking skyline views, consider alternatives like Top of the Rock or the Edge at Hudson Yards, which offer a clearer perspective of the skyline. The Metropolitan Museum of Art stands as a must-visit for art enthusiasts. Its vast collections and unique events, such as themed date nights, add to its appeal. Similarly, Central Park treasures some of NYC's most picturesque spots, perfect for a leisurely stroll or picnic. With its lakes, historic landmarks, and numerous activities, it's a refreshing oasis amidst urban hustle. In contrast, Times Square is often regarded as overrated, attracting crowds mostly for Broadway shows. Many shops there mirror those in large cities worldwide, leading locals to advise against venturing too close unless attending a performance. The Brooklyn Bridge is a delightful crossing to enjoy on foot or by bike; it connects you to Dumbo, a pastel-hued neighborhood filled with eateries and shops that highlight Brooklyn's local charm. Lastly, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum offers a profound experience, serving as a reminder of the events of 2001 while encouraging visitors to reflect and learn. Admission is free for New York state residents on specific days, adding incentive for locals and visitors alike to explore this meaningful site. Arming yourself with these insights can enhance your NYC experience, ensuring you visit attractions worth your time and investment.

if you go to the empire State Building at night it's less packes I did it in January and could walk around on the top just fine and if you want pictures without the bars just put phone closer to them and they won't be in the picture I have really good pictures from up there
