📍✨Austria: Day Trip to Hallstatt from Salzburg 🌊🏔️

How to Go:

1. Take Bus 150 from Salzburg Hbf to Bad Ischl 🚎

🎫: ~12€ (I purchased on the bus using paywave)

🕦: ~90mins

2. Take train from Bad Ischl to Hallstatt 🚆

- Take the regional REX train

🎫: ~7€ (bought on Omio/ you can purchase it at the train station)

🕥: ~30mins

3. Take a ferry from Hallstat Hbf to Hallstatt Village ⛴️

🎫: ~4€ (CASH ONLY!!! & Keep the ticket with you because it’s a return ticket)

🕥: ~10-15mins

THIS!!! Super scenic 🥹🥰 The ferry will move across the lake and you can see the mountains and colorful houses. It’s like a moving postcard.

💡:

- To come back, just take the same route

- Just follow the crowd, those taking 150 are most likely gg to Hallstatt

- Walk, walk & walk (the best way to see Hallstatt)

- Try pastries from 📍Rührwerk Hallstatt

Ofenfrische Schaumrollen

OH! Hallstatt has lots of friendly village cats roaming around! So if ure lucky like me (I saw 4 🥰), you’ll be able to see them sunbathing by the lake or just roaming around aimlessly 🤭🐈

... Read moreFor anyone considering a half-day or full-day trip from Salzburg to Hallstatt, a few additional tips can make your experience even more enjoyable and practical. First, timing is crucial. I recommend starting early to avoid crowds and to have more time for leisurely exploration. The bus 150 to Bad Ischl is quite popular, so boarding early helps secure a good seat. Tickets on the bus are convenient with paywave, but having some cash on hand is wise for the ferry, which only accepts cash payments. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, consider purchasing your train ticket from Bad Ischl to Hallstatt in advance through Omio or at the station. The regional REX trains are quite reliable, and you’ll enjoy views of the Salzkammergut region. Once you arrive at Hallstatt Bahnhof, the ferry to Hallstatt village is not only a means of transport but also an experience in itself. Moving across the lake with its reflections of colorful mountain houses felt like I was gliding over a moving postcard. Don’t forget to keep your return ticket handy! Walking is the best way to discover Hallstatt’s charm. The pedestrian-friendly village reveals its beauty through both iconic spots and quiet corners. Along the way, be sure to take a break at Rührwerk Hallstatt. I personally loved their Ofenfrische Schaumrollen – freshly baked pastries perfect with a coffee. Another delight for animal lovers: Hallstatt’s friendly village cats seem to roam happily, often found lounging by the lake or basking in the sun, adding a cozy touch to the idyllic setting. Lastly, remember that the route back is just as straightforward – simply reverse your steps. Following the crowd usually leads you safely to bus 150 back to Salzburg, but checking the timetable beforehand is always a good idea. With these practical insights and personal observations, your Salzburg to Hallstatt day trip is set to be not just scenic but seamless and memorable.
