... Read moreDiving into a junk journal is one of my favorite ways to capture memories, and my latest entries have been so much fun to create! If you’ve ever wondered how to really make your travel experiences or precious life moments leap off the page, let me share some of my go-to tips and tricks.
When I started on my San Francisco adventure spread, I knew I wanted to bring the city's unique vibe to life. Collecting little mementos during your trip is key! Think about grabbing a cable car ticket, a map from Fisherman's Wharf, or even a receipt from a memorable meal. For my San Francisco pages, I included stickers of the Golden Gate Bridge and even a little turtle for Sausalito, just like capturing the essence of the Japanese Tea Garden or the iconic Alcatraz Island and Coit Tower. Don't forget to save things like movie tickets or flyers from unique experiences like THEESCAPEGAME.COM – they add such a personal touch!
Documenting a cruise, especially one to Alaska and Canada, opens up a whole new world of journaling possibilities. For my "1st ever Cruise" entry, I loved incorporating elements like 'DEAL OR NO DEAL' stickers and even a Bingo card from onboard activities. Each port offers distinct treasures: in Juneau, I focused on the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, adding stickers of an eagle and a bear, and noting a stop at Tracy's King Crab Shack. Skagway brought out the charm of the Red Onion Saloon and Skagway Brewing Co., along with beautiful illustrations of whales and puffins. And for Ketchikan, it was all about the 'Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's Tour' and 'Deadliest Catch' vibes, complete with a cruise ship sticker. Even a brief stop in Prince Rupert, Canada, with its Canadian flag, adds to the narrative. Imagine having a collection of these unique items and photos to look back on!
Beyond travel, creating an entry for a new pet, like my sweet pup Daisy, is incredibly heartwarming. I used a polaroid photo of her, surrounded by daisy flower patterns and even a playful Daisy Duck illustration. Think about adding a tiny paw print, a snippet from their first toy, or notes about their funny habits or milestones. These small details transform a simple photo into a story.
For anyone just getting started with junk journaling, don't feel overwhelmed! The beauty of it is that there are no rules. You can use anything from old book pages, envelopes, patterned paper, to actual junk like tickets and brochures. I always keep a small pouch with me when I travel to collect little bits and bobs. Invest in a good glue stick or adhesive runner, a few fun pens, and some basic stickers or washi tape. The most important thing is to tell your story. Whether it's documenting your "Junk Journal Entries Part Two" or your very first one, the process of creating and reliving those moments is truly rewarding. It's a wonderful hobby that merges creativity with memory-keeping, turning ordinary items into cherished keepsakes.
