Local Kuching Food

A little food stop in Siburan that well known to Kuching lang.

Our first stop was EverFresh Mini Market, famous for their handmade Cai Kueh. Every piece is freshly made only after you order, soft & chewy skin. We tapao their Kiam Chai and Mangkuang Cai Kueh, and both were so comforting and delicious. Sometimes, the simplest local snacks are the most satisfying.

After that, we headed to Chung Cai Poh ABC Rojak, a long-time local favourite that’s well known for its crispy fritters, refreshing desserts, and their signature fried mee suah. The mee suah is wok-fried until fragrant and served with ikan bilis topping — a dish that’s getting harder to find these days.

We ordered:

🥢 Banana Fritters

🥢 Fried Mee Suah with Leek

🥢 Fried Mee Suah with Manicai

🥤 Cendol with Gula Apong

🥤 Barley with Milk ice shave

Everything was simple, comforting, and full of old-school flavours. If you’re driving between Kuching and Serian, this is definitely a worthwhile stop for a taste of authentic local favourites.

... Read moreWhen I first visited Siburan, I was truly impressed by how these local food stops preserved the authentic taste of Kuching’s traditional snacks. At EverFresh Mini Market, the freshness stood out immediately; their Cai Kueh, particularly the Kiam Chai and Mangkuang varieties, offered the perfect balance of a soft yet chewy skin that enveloped the savory, well-seasoned fillings. Given that each piece is made fresh only upon order, it’s clear that freshness is a priority here, making it a great place for anyone seeking genuine local flavors. Moving on to Chung Cai Poh ABC Rojak, the emphasis on traditional recipes was evident. The highlight, for me, was their fried mee suah topped with ikan bilis—a dish that evokes nostalgia and is increasingly rare to find in today’s fast-paced dining scene. The wok-frying technique imparts a delightful fragrance and texture that reminded me of home-cooked meals. Their banana fritters are an irresistible treat—crispy on the outside, soft and sweet inside—paired perfectly with their local desserts like cendol with gula apong and barley with milk ice shave, which offered a refreshing contrast to the savory dishes. For travelers driving between Kuching and Serian, these stops are more than just food pit-stops; they are invitations to experience Kuching’s rich culinary heritage. The combination of simple yet comforting flavors makes it easy to appreciate the traditional food culture that locals cherish. Whether you’re a food enthusiast or just passing through, I highly recommend setting aside time to savor these local favorites. The addresses—EverFresh Mini Market at Lot 20 Commercial Center Siburan, Batu 17, and Chung Cai Poh ABC Rojak at 12, Lorong Barat—are easy to find and well worth the visit. Overall, these eateries highlight how local food can reflect cultural identity and bring comfort through old-school flavors. Don’t miss out on sampling these classic dishes on your next trip to Kuching!
