Kubah National Park Waterfall Hiking
🌿 Kubah National Park, Kuching, Sarawak 🥾🌳
As an Anak Sarawak, this was my very first jungle hike to a waterfall in Kuching — and finally, I can tick this off my bucket list! ✅
A day of lush greenery, waterfall adventure & definitely a little hiking challenge! 😂
45 minutes from Kuching, Kubah National Park covers 2,230 hectares of rich mixed dipterocarp rainforest, home to beautiful palms, orchids and pitcher plants. The park is dominated by Mount Serapi (911m), which also creates a stunning backdrop to Kuching’s sunsets.
From the registration counter, we walked about 900m uphill to the rest area before starting the 1,600m waterfall trail. The estimated time was around 1 hr 45 min one way — but our group had very different timings! 🤭
🚶♀️ Bvan & Jen: 1 hr 30 min
🥾 Me & hubby: Almost 2 hours! 😅
Definitely a workout, but reaching the waterfall made every step worth it! 💪💦
Would I do it again?
Maybe… 🤔 Maybe not! 😂
Ask me again 😂

Hiking to the waterfall in Kubah National Park is not only a chance to experience Sarawak's rich biodiversity but also a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy some physical activity. The park’s mixed dipterocarp rainforest is home to many exotic plant species such as orchids and pitcher plants, which you might spot along the trail if you take your time observing the surroundings. The trek starts with a 900-meter uphill walk to a rest area, followed by a 1,600-meter waterfall trail marked by blue paint on the trees and several wooden bridges that cross small rivers. These natural elements add variety and excitement to the hike, making it feel like a true jungle adventure. Preparing for frequent rests is important since the pathway can be steep and tiring in parts, especially in tropical weather. One useful tip is to pace yourself and carry sufficient water and light snacks to maintain energy. Hiking with friends or family adds to the fun and allows you to support each other through the more challenging sections. Photographers will appreciate the picturesque views of Mount Serapi and the serene waterfall itself, which is a perfect spot to cool down and take memorable photos. The park entrance fee is moderate, with RM10 for Malaysians and RM20 for foreigners, and the park is open daily from 8 AM to 4 PM. Starting early in the day is recommended to avoid the midday heat and to enjoy quieter trails. Overall, this hike combines the thrill of exploring a tropical rainforest with the joy of spotting unique flora and reaching a refreshing waterfall. Whether you're a local like Anak Sarawak or a visitor to Kuching, Kubah National Park offers a fulfilling outdoor experience worth adding to your travel list.
