My Reading Slump Aka I’m sad

Sometimes you fall into a reading slump. It’s normal, it sucks, but it happens. I unfortunately have had lots of issues so I have had to develop skills and tricks for dealing with my reading slumps. My loss is your gain.

📚Do📚

📚 Switch books, sometimes just switching books is enough to get you out of a slump and into another good go of books. In elementary school I LOVED the Percy Jackson movie, cringe I know, but the book was not it at all. I then took a break, read something else, and went back to it and now I say Percy Jackson is my favorite series I have ever read. Sometimes the timing just isn’t right.

📚 Listen to music. Honestly it’s such a game changer when you can find a song that fits the vibe of the book. I love trying to find matches.

📚 Read reviews/watch tik toks about it. Get your doom scroll on to see what everyone else is saying. This is mainly to see if it’s a me thing or a book thing or both.

📚Drink or snack. This was mainly because I was homesick. But it helped.

📚 Watch a movie, for me it was K-pop Demon Hunters because now I’m search for a book with a similar vibe.

📚 Read a Short Story. Or fanfics for an old favorite.

📚Write something silly. I had an ongoing story about a packet of ketchup for a long time for my slumps.

🗑️Don’t🗑️

🗑️Force it. It’ll come back just give it time.

What about you? Any tips or tricks to use the next time I have a reading slump?

... Read moreReading slumps are a common experience for many book lovers, and overcoming them can be essential for continuing to enjoy and benefit from reading. A reading slump is when you find it difficult to focus on or enjoy your current reading material, which can stem from various factors such as stress, distractions, or simply a mismatch between your interests and the book you’re reading. This article highlights valuable strategies that help break out of these slumps, reaffirming that they are normal and manageable. One effective method is switching books. Sometimes the timing isn’t right for a particular book, and shifting to a different genre or style can refresh your enthusiasm. For example, the author’s experience with the Percy Jackson series illustrates how returning to a book at a different time can completely change your perspective and enjoyment. This underscores the importance of being patient and flexible with your reading choices. Music pairing is a creative and immersive way to enhance your reading experience. Listening to songs that match the vibe or theme of a book can deepen engagement and bring new emotional dimensions to the story. For readers interested in specific genres, the mention of the "K-pop Demon Hunters" soundtrack from the Netflix film points towards multimedia inspiration, blending music and storytelling to reignite interest. Engaging with community content such as reviews, TikTok videos, and fan discussions provides social proof and varied perspectives. This can help you determine whether your slump is personal or book-related and motivate you through shared enthusiasm. Additionally, small rituals like enjoying a snack or drink while reading can create comforting associations, making the reading environment more inviting. Watching movies or reading short stories, including fan fiction, related to your favorite themes can also rekindle your passion by introducing fresh narratives without overwhelming commitment. Importantly, readers are advised not to force reading during a slump. Giving yourself permission to take breaks reduces pressure and preserves the joy of reading. Incorporating these tips enhances not only the enjoyment but also the mental and emotional benefits of reading. Taking care of your reading habits with such thoughtful strategies ensures literature remains a source of relaxation, inspiration, and growth even during challenging moods. Remember that every reader’s journey is unique, and discovering what works specifically for you is key to sustaining a lifelong love of books.
