My Audiobook Reads so far this month

I wanted to take a break from my Book Banning Talk, mainly because I am working on a full on Video essay for YouTube. Don't worry I'll post about what that process looks like later. So here is my current Audiobooks.

🎧 Not Pictured is First Witch of Boston by Andrea Catalona. This book took me a while to stay interested. But I'm glad I got interested after a while.

If you haven't heard of this book it's a Historical Fiction that uses real diary entries from a woman who was killed for being a witch. Most of the book is told by her husband while he reads her diary and reflects on their life together in Boston. The last few chapters are told from her perspective and they are the most heartbreaking chapters in the entire book. I recommend it just be prepared to wait for it to get good. 3.5/5

🎧 The last one I finished was You Shouldn't Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose. I love a good thriller and this was interesting until I guessed the ending. I don't know if it was a me problem or something.

It starts off with our main character Grace checking into her AirBnB for her trip to Wyoming. While she is there she and her host have a romantic connection. But the entire time she's there she feels haunted by his ex girlfriend and his past. 2.5/5 it's not the worst but I doubt I will reread it any time soon.

🎧 My Current listen is The Fourth Daughter by Lyn Liao Butler which so far I am loving. I'm about 1/3 of the way through and it's so interesting.

It's about a Grandmother looking for her daughter who her Husband gave away because he viewed her as bad luck in 1960's Taiwan. The story is told by a granddaughter in the modern time while she is recovering mentally from a traumatic experience. She goes to visit her Grandmother to try and help her. The other part of the story is told by the Grandmother telling us about her life when she lost her fourth daughter. We see how much effort she has put into looking for her daughter during the years after she went missing. We also learn more about her life in general and her struggles. It's very interesting.

🎧 My next audio read, as of this second, is Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez. I have been on this Libby waitlist since May 9 and I just got the available soon notification. If I don't get it super soon I will be either starting the "Scared (word I'm afraid will make this ineligible)" series that a bunch of authors did or The Deal by Elle Kennedy. It really just depends on timing.

🪿Once again I mainly listen to audiobooks while working and gaming. This batch has been getting me through the Star Stable tutorial which my friend has been bullying me to start playing and some Roblox tycoons. As I write this post I'm dead in my Dungeon and Dragons game and debating if I want to start listening again because I won't be brought back for a while.

Anyway I'll be posting more this week hopefully.

... Read moreMany of you might be wondering, what's the deal with Lemon8 versus Audible? It's a great question, and one I get a lot from fellow book enthusiasts! The truth is, they're not really competitors, but rather two fantastic tools that complement each other perfectly in my reading life. Think of it this way: one is where I find my next great read and connect with an amazing community, and the other is where I actually listen to those stories. Lemon8, for me, is like my personal book club and recommendation engine all rolled into one. It’s where I discover what everyone else is buzzing about, whether it’s a gripping thriller like 'You Shouldn't Have Come Here' or a thought-provoking historical fiction. I love browsing through posts, seeing what others have recently finished, and adding new titles to my ever-growing TBR (To Be Read) list. It’s also where I share my own experiences, like my current listen, 'The Fourth Daughter,' which I'm absolutely loving, or my anticipation for 'Part of Your World' by Abby Jimenez, which I finally got off my Libby waitlist! Audible, on the other hand, is my go-to platform for actually consuming these audiobooks. It's where my entire audiobook library lives, and it's incredibly convenient for fitting reading into my busy schedule. Whether I'm working, gaming, or just doing chores around the house, my Audible app is open. I can easily pull up my 'Audible library page' and pick up right where I left off. The vast selection means I can almost always find the books I discover on Lemon8, making the transition from discovery to listening seamless. I often find myself listening to books I'd never even heard of before seeing them pop up in my Lemon8 feed, like 'The First Witch of Boston,' which took a little while to get into but ultimately became a rewarding listen. So, if you're trying to figure out if you need one or the other, my advice is: why not both? Lemon8 provides the vibrant community, the fresh recommendations, and a space to share your own bookish thoughts and reviews. It helps me stay inspired and find diverse genres and authors. Audible provides the vast catalog, the accessibility, and the high-quality narration that brings stories to life. Together, they create a powerful duo that enhances my audiobook experience immensely. Plus, remember there are other great platforms too, like Libby, which lets you borrow audiobooks for free from your local library – another fantastic resource for a bookworm on a budget!

I knew it was supposed to be a romance that turned into a thriller with a “twist”, but I guessed all the twists wayyyyy before they happened and then the “thrill” part didn’t come until like 80%??? I felt like I was just waiting for the entire book and then the reveal wasn’t satisfying because it was so expected
