Acid for your skin

6/18 Edited to

... Read moreWhen incorporating acids into your skincare routine, understanding each acid's benefits and how your skin reacts is crucial. For example, tranexamic acid is excellent for fading dark spots and evening out skin tone while also calming inflammation, making it a good choice for sensitive or pigmentation-prone skin. Retinoic acid is a powerful ingredient that stimulates collagen production, reduces wrinkles and fine lines, and accelerates cell turnover. However, it can cause initial dryness or irritation, so starting slowly and using sunscreen daily is important. Mandelic acid works well for treating mild to moderate acne, smoothing skin texture, and fading post-acne marks due to its gentler exfoliating properties compared to other AHAs, making it suitable for sensitive and acne-prone skin. Hyaluronic acid is known for its deep hydration and improving skin elasticity. It’s less of an exfoliant and more of a moisture booster, ideal for all skin types, especially dry and dehydrated skin. Other acids like glycolic acid help plump fine lines by promoting deep exfoliation, while azelaic acid improves texture and radiance and stimulates cell renewal. Salicylic acid is great for controlling excess oil, reducing acne and inflammation, and fading dark spots, which benefits oily and acne-prone skin. Lactic acid gently exfoliates while controlling excess oil and reducing dullness, suitable for sensitive skin needing mild exfoliation. Based on my experience, patch testing any new acid product is essential to avoid adverse reactions. Start with lower concentrations, and introduce one acid at a time to understand how your skin responds. Combining acids can be beneficial but requires caution to prevent irritation. Consistency and patience are key, as visible results can take weeks. Don’t forget the importance of daily sunscreen protection to prevent further sun damage and enhance the efficacy of acid-based skincare.
