CAR SHOTS
Just wanted to show you all some angles I tried out with my dji osmo pocket 3 and accessories. I used a magnetic mount case for the car hood shots and a clamp for the headrest shots.
Would you try these angles!?
When I first thought about getting those cool car shots, especially the dynamic ones that make your car look like it's gliding, I knew stability would be key. For the hood shots, I invested in a heavy-duty magnetic mount. It's not just any magnet; it needs to be super strong, often with multiple points of contact, to withstand wind resistance at speed. I usually attach it to the center of the hood, making sure the accessory is firmly in place and the Osmo Pocket 3 is secured with its own adapter. Before driving, I always do a quick shake test – safety first! You don't want your camera flying off on the highway. This setup gives such a dynamic perspective, really capturing the angle of the road ahead and the car's movement, making viewers feel like they're right there in the driver's seat, or even hovering above the car. For interior shots, specifically those headrest views that give a glimpse into the cabin or focus on passengers, a simple but sturdy clamp mount changed the game. I found one that attaches easily to the metal rods of the headrest, positioned either between the front seats looking back, or behind the driver/passenger looking forward. This is perfect for capturing passenger reactions, or even a unique over-the-shoulder shot of the driver's hands on the wheel. It's subtle but adds so much to the storytelling, making the viewer feel like they're a fly on the wall. I've even tried clamping it to the sun visor for a POV looking down at the gear stick or dashboard – super versatile and surprisingly stable! Beyond the hood and headrest, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3's small size opens up so many creative possibilities for unique car angles. I've experimented with attaching it to the side mirror (carefully, ensuring it doesn't obstruct vision!) using a smaller clamp or even a strong adhesive mount for a wide-angle view of the car driving by. Another favorite is placing it on the dashboard, either facing forward for a classic scenic drive-lapse or angled towards the driver for vlogging. For those epic 'car rollers' everyone loves, where the background blurs but the car stays sharp, I usually try a lower angle. This often involves a suction cup mount placed on the side panel, just above the wheel arch, pointing slightly back. This really emphasizes the motion and speed, giving that sought-after cinematic feel. I've also seen people use suction cups on the side windows for interesting profile *shots*. Getting that smooth 'roller' look isn't just about *the angle*; it's about movement and technique. I try to maintain a consistent speed, and the Osmo Pocket 3's amazing 3-axis stabilization does most of the heavy lifting, ironing out any bumps. But don't forget about the context – lighting plays a huge role. Golden hour always makes car shots look incredible, highlighting the car's lines and creating beautiful reflections. For post-processing, a little color grading can really make those urban or scenic drives pop. I've also learned that using the Osmo Pocket 3's ActiveTrack feature can be fantastic for keeping a specific part of the car or even a passing landscape in focus, especially if you're getting a shot from a different moving vehicle. What I personally love about the Osmo Pocket 3 for car videography is its incredible portability and ease of use. It's so easy to set up and get a variety of shots quickly without needing a bulky rig. I've found that having a few different mounts in my kit – a good quality magnetic mount, a versatile clamp, and a reliable suction cup – covers almost every scenario I've wanted to try. It’s all about experimenting and finding what works best for your specific car and the desired angle you're aiming for. Don't be afraid to try weird or unconventional placements; you might discover your next favorite, unique car shot that truly stands out! Remember, every successful video starts with a great accessory and the perfect *angle*.
