Fake following ⚠️

Every time I see my profile I figure how the number of people I am following increases without me actually following. I am not really sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing but it does annoy me a little that is always more people that I am following than what I am followed. I don't know if I explained myself or if anyone else is going through the same situation. Let me know what you think.

... Read moreHey everyone! I totally get where you're coming from with this 'fake following' dilemma on Lemon8. It's so frustrating to open your profile and see that your 'following' count has mysteriously jumped, especially when you know you didn't click that 'follow' button on those accounts. I've experienced something similar, and it really makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes! One thing I've learned from chatting with other Lemon8 creators is that there could be a few reasons for this. Sometimes, it might genuinely be an app glitch. Platforms are constantly updating, and sometimes minor bugs can cause unexpected behavior, like accidentally following someone when you meant to just view their profile or scroll past. It's not always malicious, but it definitely feels weird when you realize you're 'following people on Lemon8 I didn't even follow 👀' as the image so perfectly puts it! Another possibility could be related to how you interact with content. Have you ever quickly tapped on a profile or a post and maybe accidentally hit the follow button without realizing it? It happens to the best of us, especially when scrolling quickly. Or, if you've linked your Lemon8 account to other social media platforms, there's a slim chance of some syncing issues, though this is less common for 'following' activity. So, what can you do if you notice this happening? Firstly, don't panic! It's likely not just you. I usually take a few steps to manage it. I go through my 'following' list periodically – maybe once a week or every couple of days if I'm active – and quickly scroll through. If I spot anyone I don't recognize or don't want to follow, I simply unfollow them. It's a bit tedious, but it helps keep my feed curated to what I actually want to see. You can also check your app settings. While there might not be a direct 'prevent auto-follow' button, understanding your privacy settings and how your account interacts with others can be helpful. Sometimes, engaging with certain content might subtly suggest you follow a creator. If you suspect it's more than just a minor glitch, like a security concern, it's always a good idea to report it to Lemon8 support. They can investigate if there's unusual activity linked to your account. Changing your password periodically is also a good general security practice for all your online accounts. Ultimately, this community is all about authentic connections. It's a bummer to feel like your 'following' list isn't truly reflecting your choices. Let's keep sharing our experiences and tips to help each other navigate these little quirks on Lemon8. Has anyone found a surefire way to stop this from happening? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I am a little newer but haven’t seen that happen to me yet…hopefully it just has to do with the TT merge & it’s people you follow from there

Fake Accounts
There are so many fake accounts here, and on all social media. Folks pretending to be everyone from a lottery winner looking to share money, to Elon Musk, to dudes with accounts pretending to be women! It's a darn shame that people will go through such lengths. That's why I report it all an

Not to sound like a hypocrite or anything, but when I made my first post, it blew up literally overnight, and so many people started following me at once. Mind you, I’m a college student involved in three extracurriculars outside of my schoolwork, so I don’t get to be on this app as much as I’d lik

Too Many Spam/Fake Accounts on Lemon8?
I might leave Lemon8 — I haven’t accrued a real following since I have joined. These followers all seem fake, a few of them have messaged dubious Cash App scam links, and the rest just don’t pass the sniff test for being real human beings… I also notice that there’s a certain demographic that fo

Idk if anyone else is noticing this, but I just went from 52 to 26 followers JUST from removing all the fake/bot accounts. Literally HALF OF MY FOLLOWING. I made this as a place to post diary type vibes and make friends. So if you’re into stardew valley, gardening (literally and metaphorically)
