For these particular art studies, I really focused on capturing Yemsao's distinctive anime-style features. You can see in my pencil sketches that I concentrated on his long, wavy hair and trying to get those pensive, neutral expressions just right. It's a real challenge to bring a 2D character to life on paper, especially when aiming for accuracy in expression and proportion, but it's incredibly rewarding! I even tried sketching different angles, like the head with the two small side buns, to understand his facial structure better. Speaking of tools, a lot of you might wonder about the 'Yemsao brush' – while there isn't a specific brush named after him, artists often look for tools that can replicate the webtoon's clean line art and shading. For my traditional pencil sketches, I used a trusty mechanical pencil for crisp lines and then layered softer graphite for shading, blending with a tortillon for smooth transitions. If you're drawing digitally, a good sharp brush for line art and a textured brush for hair and fabric (like a hoodie!) can really help get that signature webtoon feel. Personally, I love experimenting with different brush settings to achieve a similar depth to the original artist's work in 'Cherry Crush.' I've seen questions floating around like 'how old do you think he is?' and honestly, it's part of his charm! It just shows how invested we all get in these stories and characters, and those deep dives are part of the fun! Overall, studying Yemsao's design and trying to emulate the 'Cherry Crush' webtoon's art style has been an incredibly fun and insightful journey.
