SIX TIPS FOR REDUCING CORTISOL

Cortisol “the stress hormone” plays a crucial role with metabolism, inflammation and how your body manages stress. High levels of cortisol can cause weight gain, high blood pressure, anxiety, inconsistent sleep patterns, and so much more.

Here are 6 ways to help reduce cortisol levels naturally!

1: manage stress ~ do this by going on more walks, incorporating yoga and doing breathing exercises throughout the day

2: exercise daily ~ spend at least 30 minutes each day moving your body, or go for a walk for low impact cardio!

3: maintain a well, balanced diet ~ load up on veggies, fruits, whole gains, good sources of protein and take supplements

4: get good, quality sleep ~ aim for 7-9 hours each night

5: take time to unwind ~ it’s important to take time each night unwinding. Establish a nightly routine that allows you to do this and incorporate mindfulness to this routine

6: limit screen time ~ instead of scrolling before bed, spend time reading a devotional, self help book or bible. Feel free to mix this up with journaling.

... Read moreCortisol is often referred to as the stress hormone due to its crucial role in the body's response to stress. Elevated cortisol levels are linked to various health problems, including weight gain, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. To counteract these effects, incorporating stress-reducing practices like yoga and mindfulness can be tremendously beneficial. Exercise is another powerful tool; engaging in just 30 minutes of physical activity daily can effectively lower cortisol levels and improve your mood. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains serves as a foundational support for hormonal balance, helping to manage cortisol production efficiently. Quality sleep is crucial in the regulatory process of hormones, including cortisol. Striving for 7-9 hours of restorative sleep each night will not only enhance your mood but also improve your overall health. Additionally, establishing a nightly unwinding routine helps signal to your body that it's time to relax and reset. Lastly, managing screen time before bed and opting for calming activities such as reading or journaling can significantly contribute to lowering cortisol levels and promoting better sleep hygiene. By implementing these strategies, you can effectively manage your stress levels and enhance your health.

These are great tips, but not so great for people who work, then have to go home to more work until it’s time to pass out for bed and then your mind kicks in….
