non-traditional things we did at our wedding 💍

1: child free wedding ~ me and my husband opted to do a child free wedding, which also meant not having a flower girl or ring bearer. His best man held our rings for us!

2: first look ~ me and my husband opted to have a “first look” so that we can enjoy a private moment to ourselves before walking down the aisle. I will forever treasure this moment.

3: small wedding ~ weddings can become extremely expensive, so me and my husband opted to have a smaller wedding of about 80 people. We invited our closest friends, immediate family and close relatives only. Don’t feel pressured to feel the need to extend the invite to everyone.

4: mother daughter dance ~ I opted to skip out on the traditional father/daughter dance and instead surprised my mom with a “mother daughter” dance. It was a beautiful moment honoring my best friend and constant supporter.

... Read morePlanning our wedding was honestly one of the most exciting, yet sometimes overwhelming, experiences! My partner and I knew from the start that we wanted to infuse our personalities into every detail, even if it meant gently bending some traditions. We wanted our day to be less about obligation and more about authentic joy and connection. One of the biggest decisions we made was opting for a child-free wedding. This choice really allowed us and our guests to fully relax and enjoy the celebration without worrying about little ones. I know it's not for everyone, but for us, it meant a more adult-focused party. Instead of a flower girl or ring bearer, my husband's best man proudly carried our rings. For couples considering this, transparent communication is key – we made sure to mention it clearly on our invitations. It also meant we dodged the 'flower boys' debate entirely, focusing on what felt right for *us*. Another moment I’ll forever cherish was our first look. Many debate whether to see each other before the ceremony, but for us, it was pure magic. It was a private, intimate moment where we could truly connect and calm our nerves before walking down the aisle. Those few minutes were just for us, filled with tears, laughter, and so much love, away from the hustle and bustle. The photos from that moment are some of my absolute favorites – just us, embracing, with genuine smiles. Our decision to have a small wedding was driven by a desire for intimacy and practicality. We capped our guest list at around 80 people, inviting only our closest friends and immediate family. This wasn't about being exclusive, but about ensuring we could genuinely connect with everyone present. It also helped us manage our budget significantly, allowing us to splurge on other details like an amazing photographer or those beautiful string lights that bathed our evening reception in a warm glow. We envisioned an outdoor wedding, and having a smaller group made finding the perfect venue, with a stunning floral arch and rows of white chairs, much easier. Imagine dancing outdoors at night under those lights – it was truly magical! And finally, a super personal touch: my mother-daughter dance. While the father-daughter dance is a beautiful tradition, my mom has always been my rock, my best friend. Surprising her with this dance was incredibly emotional and a truly special way to honor her unwavering support. It just goes to show, you don't have to follow every tradition if it doesn't resonate with you. Think about who has had the most significant impact on your life and how you can celebrate them. When planning your own unique day, don't feel pressured by what's 'expected.' Whether you're dreaming of a destination wedding in places like New Zealand or Canada, or a picturesque ceremony at a spot like Pretty Place Chapel, these unique elements can be adapted. Look for wedding examples from real couples – platforms like TikTok are full of modern ideas and inspiration for personalizing your day. Ultimately, your wedding should reflect your love story, your values, and your vision. It's about creating memories that are distinctly *yours*. From the overall vibe to specific details like custom LOVE letters in the background of your reception, every choice adds to your unique narrative.

Non-Traditional Things We Did At Our Wedding 💍
My husband and I are two very untraditional people and we really wanted to show that in our wedding day to make it TRULY about us. We both could not be happier with the decisions we made. 🤍 Bridesmaid Dresses: I LOVE adding color to my daily life so of course my wedding day had to reflect that.

Non-traditional Things We LOVED About Our Wedding
We had a very non-traditional wedding, and we loved it! Our main goal was to focus on it being as low-key and stress-free as humanly possible. We started that off by choosing not to have our photographer present for our first look. My husband doesn’t love having his picture made, and I really just
