i stopped trying to focus. i outsourced the part of my brain that won’t.

i have adhd. i don't manage it with prompts. i manage it with a file.

seven functions. all of them above. copy them.

but the part nobody says out loud:

a prompt only works if you remember to use it.

an adhd brain is the exact brain that will not remember to use it.

so it goes in a file. the file loads every session.

it runs whether i remember or not.

that's the whole difference between a prompt and a skill.

... Read moreLiving with ADHD means constantly battling with focus and follow-through, especially when traditional strategies like prompts or reminders simply don't stick. What I found incredibly helpful is shifting from trying to force focus internally to outsourcing that function externally—and it has been a game changer. Instead of relying on my memory to activate prompts or skills, I created a file system that holds all the important functions I need to work through each session. This file runs automatically, every time I start working, ensuring that the executive function that my ADHD brain struggles with is handled consistently without needing to remember initiating it. It's like installing a reliable system that supports my brain’s creativity and divergent thinking while managing sequencing and follow-through for me. From personal experience, this approach goes beyond simple task lists or reminders—it creates an infrastructure that turns a prompt into a skill. Prompts are only effective if you remember to use them; skills work in the background whether you recall or not. By leveraging automation tools powered by AI (like agents running Claude, as seen in the insights shared), I effectively build a scaffold that sustains productivity and prevents attention lapses. What also resonates is the idea that ADHD is not simply a superpower, but a trade-off. Yes, strengths like hyperfocus and pattern recognition exist, but they come with challenges in starting and sequencing tasks. The real edge lies in combining neurodivergent thinking with systems that compensate for the weak spots. In my journey, implementing this external file system helped me tap into my brain’s creative power while delegating the less reliable functions to a consistent, external process. For those with ADHD or neurodivergent traits, consider how an infrastructure of files, automated agents, or software can replace memory-dependent methods. This method not only reduces frustration but fosters a more sustainable workflow, turning the unpredictable nature of ADHD focus into an asset rather than a barrier.
