... Read moreHey everyone! I wanted to share a bit more about my personal bible study journey, especially after diving into Jeremiah 23:24 recently. It's truly amazing how much you can uncover when you take the time to really sit with scripture. My bible study journal method, which I've found incredibly helpful, focuses on four key areas: scripture, observation, apply, and pray.
When I focused on Jeremiah 23:24, '“Am I only a God nearby,” declares the Lord, “and not a God far away? Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord,' the meaning really hit me. This verse is such a powerful reminder of God's omnipresence – He is everywhere, all-knowing, and nothing is hidden from Him. For my observation section, I noted how this completely shatters any idea of privacy from God. He sees our thoughts, our actions, even our hidden struggles.
Then came the apply part, which is often the most challenging but also the most transformative for me. Knowing God's omnipresence really helps me in avoiding temptation. It's not about being afraid, but about being aware that I'm always in His presence, which inspires a desire to honor Him. It also brought up the topic of repentance. When we truly understand that God sees our hearts, it makes admitting our shortcomings and turning back to Him a more genuine and humbling experience. My pray section usually involves thanking God for His constant presence and asking for strength to live in a way that reflects His glory.
Beyond Jeremiah 23:24, I've started applying this same journal method to other powerful passages in Jeremiah that many of us are curious about. For instance, Jeremiah 7:23-24 talks about God's desire for obedience over ritual. It says, 'Obey My voice... and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.' This really makes me observe my own heart – am I truly listening to God's voice, or am I stubborn in my own ways? The application here is a daily commitment to seek His will and align my actions with His word.
Another impactful verse is Jeremiah 9:23, which declares that we shouldn't boast in wisdom, might, or riches, 'but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth.' This is a fantastic reminder about what truly matters. My observation here is how often we, myself included, chase after worldly things. The application is a call to shift my focus from self-reliance to knowing God intimately.
And who hasn't been encouraged by Jeremiah 29:11-13? 'For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.' This verse offers such incredible hope! My breakdown of this often focuses on the promise of God's good plans, the importance of calling on Him, and the assurance that He will be found when sought wholeheartedly. It encourages me to pray with earnestness and expectation.
Even understanding the context of Jeremiah 24, with its imagery of good and bad figs, offers profound insights into God's discernment between those who turn to Him and those who remain in rebellion. It's a reminder of His justice and His incredible capacity for restoration.
Using a bible study journal has really transformed how I engage with scripture. It helps me to not just read the words, but to observe what they truly mean, apply them to my everyday life, and then pray about what God has revealed. It's a simple yet profound method to find God🙏🏼📖 and deepen your christian ✝️ walk. I hope this helps you connect with His word in a meaningful way too!
