Why I make my frames!

As a fellow artist and jewelry maker, I've often been asked about my process, especially why I choose to make my frames using traditional molds rather than simply 3D printing them. It's a totally valid question, especially with the rise of modern design and technology! Through my experience, I've found that the benefits of mold-making for jewelry frames truly set my pieces apart, offering a level of durability and aesthetic control that's hard to achieve otherwise. If I 3D printed every frame, I would have print supports that would require cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. This cleanup process for every single frame would not only be incredibly time-consuming but also generate a lot of waste and use harsh chemicals unnecessarily. My goal is to create beautiful pieces responsibly. This is where making molds truly shines. By creating a mold, I get a consistent, high-quality positive that I can use repeatedly. This method allows me to use a more durable material for the frame itself, ensuring that my jewelry lasts forever. It's not just about strength; it's also about control. With molds, I can better control what colour they are, achieving rich, consistent hues that truly make the piece pop. This precision is essential for modern, sleek designs that often feature rounded edges or intricate details, where every curve needs to be perfect. Many contemporary jewelry designs call for a clean, modern aesthetic, often incorporating rounded forms and robust materials. While some might assume metal is the only durable option, traditional mold-making allows for a diverse range of long-lasting materials, giving me creative freedom while maintaining structural integrity.
