It all started with a curiosity about apple cider vinegar and baking soda. I’d seen discussions online about their individual health properties, but combining them in coffee? It sounded wild, yet intriguing. My first thought was, 'Will it taste awful?' But I decided to be brave and experiment. I began by adding just a 1/2 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, known for its potential benefits in digestion and blood sugar regulation, and a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to help neutralize the acidity and make the drink smoother. To my surprise, the taste wasn't nearly as bad as I'd imagined! In fact, the baking soda really did mellow out the sharpness of the apple cider vinegar, creating a surprisingly palatable, almost creamy texture in my coffee. Encouraged by this initial success and feeling a noticeable difference in my energy and digestion, I started exploring other beneficial additions. My kitchen pantry became my new experimental lab! I looked at common spices and herbs, drawing inspiration from wellness trends. Soon, I was incorporating a pinch of turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties, a dash of cayenne pepper for a little metabolic kick and warmth, a sprinkle of cinnamon for its blood sugar balancing effects and delightful aroma, and even a tiny bit of ginger, which is fantastic for digestion. Here’s exactly how I prepare my upgraded coffee now: First, I brew my favorite coffee as usual. Then, while it's still hot, I carefully stir in 1/2 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda until they are fully dissolved. It might fizz a little, which is totally normal! After that, I add a small pinch of turmeric, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, and ginger – usually about a 1/4 teaspoon of each, or even less, depending on my mood. I make sure to stir everything really well. Sometimes, I even use a small frother to ensure everything is perfectly blended and there's no gritty residue.
