Valentine’s Day Pizza Roses🌹

Ingredients:

1 can of pizza dough

1/2 cup marinara sauce

6-8 slices (or 1 to 1 1/2 cups of shredded) mozzarella cheese

18 pepperoni slices

Prep:

Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for your pizza roses.

Prepare the muffin tin: Lightly grease a muffin tin with cooking spray or butter. This will help your pizza roses come out easily once they’re baked.

Roll out the dough: Open your can of pizza dough and unroll it onto a clean surface. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice the dough into six long strips. These strips should be about 1-2 inches wide each.

Add marinara sauce: Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce across each strip of dough. Be sure to leave a small border along the edges so it doesn’t spill out while you roll the dough. You can adjust the sauce amount depending on how saucy you like your pizza!

Add cheese: Cut mozzarella cheese into slices that will fit comfortably along the length of the dough strips. Layer the cheese over the marinara sauce.

Layer the pepperoni: Arrange your pepperoni slices on top of the cheese, with half of each slice hanging off the edge of the dough. This will help create the ā€œpetalsā€ of your pizza rose once it’s rolled up.

Roll into roses: Carefully roll each strip of dough into a tight rose shape. Make sure the ends are tucked underneath so the pizza rose stays intact during baking.

Place in muffin tin: Gently place each rolled pizza rose into a muffin tin. The dough will fit snugly in the muffin cup, creating a perfect rose shape.

Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve: Once your pizza roses are baked to perfection, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving. If desired, garnish with a sprinkle of fresh basil or a drizzle of olive oil for extra flavor.

... Read moreMaking pizza roses is a delightful way to bring creativity and fun to your homemade pizza experience. One tip I've found helpful is to use a non-stick or silicon muffin tin to ensure the pizza roses come out easily without sticking or losing their shape. Greasing the muffin tin well with cooking spray, olive oil, or butter is essential to keep the delicate rose shapes intact. When arranging the pepperoni slices on the dough strips, letting half of the slices hang over the edge really enhances the rose petal look after rolling. You can experiment with other ingredients too—for example, adding thin slices of bell pepper, mushrooms, or even a sprinkle of Italian herbs like oregano and basil before rolling up to boost flavor. For the dough, using store-bought pizza dough is super convenient, but homemade dough can elevate the texture and taste if you have the time. The key is to keep the dough not too thin so it holds the ingredients well, but also thin enough to bake through in the allotted time. Baking at 400°F (200°C) for about 12-15 minutes usually produces a golden crust with bubbly melted cheese, but oven times may vary. Keep an eye on them to prevent over-browning. Letting the pizza roses cool for a few minutes before serving helps them set and makes them easier to remove from the tin. These pizza roses also make a perfect appetizer or snack for themed occasions like Valentine's Day or movie nights. You can garnish them with fresh basil, a drizzle of olive oil, or even a dash of garlic powder to add extra aroma and flavor. Sharing these with friends and family always earns compliments for both presentation and taste—they’re a crowd-pleaser!
