It's truly a place that feels like a secret because it really is a secret, tucked away and only accessible by water. But don't let that deter you; it's part of what makes this crystal-clear spring so incredibly special and worth the effort! Getting to Cypress Springs is an adventure in itself. Since you can’t drive right up to it, you’ll need a kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or a small boat. Many people launch from nearby public ramps, such as the one at Pitt Spring or even points along the Econfina Creek, which eventually leads towards the Holmes Creek system where Cypress Springs is located. Make sure your vessel is sturdy and you're comfortable paddling, as you'll be navigating a bit to find this serene spot. The journey through the lush Florida wilderness is part of the charm, and it makes arriving at the spring feel like discovering your own private oasis. Once you arrive at Cypress Springs, prepare to be mesmerized. The water is an unbelievable shade of blue, so clear you can see straight to the limestone bottom. It maintains a refreshing 68 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, which is absolutely perfect for cooling off on a hot Florida day. I love to bring my snorkel gear and explore the main spring bowl. It's incredible to see the fish darting around and the natural vents in the limestone boulders where fresh water bubbles up. The deepest part of the spring plunges to about 75 feet, making it a fascinating spot for stronger swimmers or freedivers to explore, but even just floating on the surface is pure bliss. To make the most of your visit, I highly recommend going during the week if possible, as weekends can attract more visitors, though it rarely feels crowded due to its remote access. Don't forget to pack essentials: plenty of water, snacks (there are no concessions out here!), sunscreen, bug spray (especially for the paddle in), a dry bag for your electronics, and maybe even a waterproof camera.
