Things I miss since becoming a mom

I absolutely love being a mom and I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world, but that doesn’t mean I don’t miss things about my child free life. Once you become a parent, things change drastically and rapidly!

1. Sleep!!!

2. My job - I sacrificed my military career to make sure my family would be together and became a sahm for the time being. I miss going into work and being around other adults.

3. Me time - Being a sahm, very rarely do I have me time, let alone time to do something like grocery shopping alone.

4. Alone time with the hubs - We do get the time before bedtime together, but sometimes I feel like that isn’t enough.

5. Being spontaneous - I used to love going on spontaneous trips or making plans out of the blue.

... Read moreBecoming a mom is a transformative experience filled with joy and challenges. However, it's common for new mothers to feel nostalgia for their previous lives. One of the most frequently cited aspects that moms miss is sleep. The demands of caring for a newborn often lead to sleepless nights, significantly altering their rest routines. Additionally, many mothers miss the camaraderie of their workplace. Leaving a job can feel isolating, as engaging with adult colleagues and maintaining professional identities become difficult. The idea of ‘me time’ also takes a hit; many stay-at-home moms long for quiet moments to indulge in personal interests or even mundane tasks like grocery shopping alone. The loss of alone time with partners can be particularly tough, as parents find it challenging to reconnect without the interference of their little ones. Finally, spontaneous adventures, which were once a cornerstone of freedom, become rare. The balance between parenting responsibilities and personal time often feels skewed. Embracing these nostalgic feelings does not negate the joy of motherhood, as every mom learns to navigate this new journey while discovering a deeper love for their families.

After becoming a mom...
After becoming a MOM, I realized that to the world, we’re NOT allowed to: • Complain - "You chose to have kids.” • Cry - "Why are you upset? Did you think it would be easy?” • Feel tired - "Tired from what? You’re home all day!” • Sleep in - "You’re just being lazy!”
